I was in tears when I read last week, that in order to test azure-sql-edge on windows you first have to install wsl2 with an ubuntu distribution and within that you can install azure-sql-edge...
Azure-sql-edge is apparently a linux only docker solution.
It feels like yesterday when they were throwing shit and dirt at anything linux because they had the budget to do that, and we as a department had to time after time explain and proof that Linux was the only way things would work correctly.

I remember a tour at dell where the tour operator was laughing at us and saying that linux is going to die and nobody uses serial consoles anymore, everything is USB (explains that he has a lack of knowledge). We set that guy straight with an e-mail to the main dell office where the Linux Poweredge department resided.

It still feels unreal. The war on linux was extreme, the setback on the computing industry as a whole was extreme (something windows users will never understand). The indoctrination of students at schools by "sponsorship" from microsoft if you go microsoft only. (Apple still does that).
It still is a company that wants to get as much of money as possible from their "victims" I guess.
But since Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer left the stage (I mean: Bill Gates is now trying to take over the WHO), it seems a breath of fresh air came in. And co-operation was suddenly possible.

I switched to Main/Beta due to the instability in the other channels.
The amount of updates is not that big, it's always steam client, but that's the same as other channels.

At least now I can complain about the memory leaks in the clients :-0.

So a switch to 3.5 starts with BIOS updates, and at least 2 dock updates. And my dock needed those updates.

But despite it not having that many OS updates, don't switch if you are not a Linux expert or tinkerer and can not live with a non functioning deck for a while.

For me it was necessary as the dock really had issues with my monitor and I work on the deck. And as a warning: there is a major memory leak in the steam client in desktop mode. It will eat about 6..8GB of memory if you do not open/close/switch views in the next 8..12 hours.
So if you are working and you just have your client in the background for a day, your system will OOM.

The memory leak is just bad javascript. The sudden power off issue is not I fear. Got it twice yesterday at a bad spot so I turned off the wifi so I can play divine divinity \0/.

And here I am still playing unsupported games on my deck :-).
I am actually waiting for the 10 release for empyrion galactic survival.
It's probably unsupported due to: videos not playing in tutorial and I think something with anti-cheat. Dunno, never tried being "social". The videos were weird though: a white pane where the video should have been. But maybe with the 10 it is gone.

It's not just gamers.
I am a Linux only software, platform and infra developer since 1999. I invested money into every linux game I could get. Those were of porting houses.
Some do native ports. Like the X series, wonderful, native and supported by the developer because they develop on linux too.
But 99% of developers have only seen windows. For a meager less than 0.9% you are not going to re-educate all your developers.
I've been working for a company that has a direction of Linux only for a decade, and still every developer only knows windows. And you can't just go and ask the market for Linux developers as they are 10x more expensive.
So nagging about it is stupid. If you really want to change this you have to start at your local schools.
Apple, Microsoft and Google are initially paying/sponsoring education on their platform, and once they have a foothold, they give you a plan on how to buy only from them and have a "discount". Apple really is terrible at extorting money out of education in the Netherlands (as it is not necessary to have an ipad, but you won't be able to pass without one).
Microsoft doesn't care, they throw money to only give their courses, and the result is that even higher education give severe broken windows only computer education.
The result is clear. The tabaco or alcohol industry does the same, teach the young, so they won't know any better when they are old.
Stop complaining to developers, educate your kids. Volunteer at school to teach. That's the only thing that works, because nobody using linux is spending money on computer education at school. Microsoft does spend money on the education of your kids, and they are the future developers.
Best is to see what these companies are to your kids: groomers.

I am actually just glad if they keep supporting proton.
The fact is: proton is the only middle ware that guarantees support for the next 20 years. Not because it acts like windows, in fact it doesn't. Unlike windows, proton guarantees a fixed API and bug compatibility.
None of my original Linux games still work, but their windows counter parts work without problems or patches on proton. And no, they don't work on windows 11 either.
The good thing about proton is this: you can implement any buggy windows API in proton that microsoft has made incompatible (as they do that a lot), but you can not implement that buggy windows API in the next windows release if you changed that API, because that would break new applications.

Video footage reminds me of Penumbra. Amnesia was already sickening, I mean I felt sick in my stomach from the terror they showed. But Penumbra put you in that terror (not going to spoil).
If anything: play penumbra too. They used to have linux versions. I have no doubt, these days proton works better.

I thought it was now around $1000 per module. They are currently litographic 3D printed, which does not convert to $5 more yet.
Despite that, they are produced and you can buy them. That's more advanced than Sodium batteries that you still can't buy.
I hope there are enough people with deep pockets to keep the research flowing.
Seems like an ideal solution for liquid/gas pumps in electro/heat technology, where you want even the last part to be free of leaking pumps.

I hoped that Microsoft would change. But it seems I do have to migrate anything on github away from github as Microsoft still seems to be this incredible FUD poison. They literally made hell for me for 30 years starting with their crap that they called operating system. As a software developer I ended up maintaining client pc's because of this CRAP OS instead of delivering software that tracks pollution in the ground, in that time rather unique.
Then they started to shit FUD all over us Linux users, while I as an agnostic mostly unix type user needed Unix and Linux systems due to severe lack of working compilers from and for Microsoft platforms.
The more I stepped away from that terrible microsoft world, the harder they began to scream.
In hindsight: a linux system would have cut down development time by years and it would still work today. But the world changed into a world were you had to keep your network open to crap, despite microsoft trying hard to monopolize networking by staying away from tcp/ip.
f*ck... I need to stop ranting.
But even now: I setup incredible cloud systems that are capable of running loads of vms and containers, yet these windows developers can not think any further than everything and all needs to be running on the sql server vm and hence the sql server vm needs to have *all* resources of the cloud and then they are angry because they did nothing to prevent crap filling the disks and they can't reindex the tables now and are angry that despite them filling all of the cloud they can not quickly order some usb disk to attach to the server so they can do backups.
Really the mind of most windows developers are so constrained because they never are able to venture outside their desktop.
The difference between "The Network is the Computer" and "My desktop is the Computer".
Sh*t I ranted again. 30 years of microsoft fud.
