The Steam Universe Is Expanding In 2014
21 Sep 2013 at 10:05 am UTC

@Bumadar And who is to say it won't become some 'Android' type thing in the future, where it becomes incompatible with Desktop Linux?.

I think Valve has something else up their sleeves than just plain Linux forever. We'll see. Also, supposedly, this is suppose to be a powerful Console that costs more than Xbox/PS4, and because of that price; it may well become a niche product. And that's not good.

Releasing it in 2-3 years might make more sense. If it were released right now, it would be the most expensive console with the least amount of games. A Linux Steambox released anytime soon would be a failure. If valve wants success, they need to start talking with AAA developers about games and hardware companies for cheaper prices.

And it only makes sense that Half-Life 3 would be an exclusive title, if there is even any interest for that game anymore. They're gonna need something beside indie games. Yes I understand everyones excitement, but as-is it just won't work.

Humble Weekly Sale Featuring Egosoft's X series
20 Sep 2013 at 8:34 am UTC

These games can be rather difficult for people new to the series. I only played Terran, it has a very limited tutorial at the beginning that really explains nothing. My brother played for a few weeks but quit because he said making money was too difficult. At the time he quit he a large Space Station built and some pilots.

I actually bought Freespace 2 from Desura a few days ago, VERY nice Space game there for $5. And they include the Open Source version with it. The X games here are for people with lots of time and patience, and even if you're not going to play them, this is a good deal that I wouldn't pass up.

Quoting: geminiMight be worth mentioning that this game will be on Steam too. It has been greenlit, but there´s no release date though.
Yup, and it's been available for purchase and play in the Ubuntu Software Store for almost a week. I was gonna buy it there, but decided I'd just wait for reviews and purchase it at a later date on Steam; even though I should probably do it on Desura.

I know Desura isn't making a Linux Console or anything, but they have more games for Linux than Steam and even some AAA titles like Freespace 2 and Fallout. I actually bought FS2 the other day from there, they include the Open Source version as well. Works great actually. Not to mention, on Desura, they also offer the Free games like M.A.R.S and some FPS.

I wish Steam would let some of the Free games on there to build up Linux titles.

Arma Tactics Turn Based Strategy To Come To Linux

Why do these companies always start us off with their less popular games?. And then later they complain we didn't buy enough.

Steam for Linux Is a little messed up, here's the temporary fix!

Oh that's interesting, just tried again to open it and this time it won't open at all. Even that command doesn't seem to help, very odd.

Edit: Very strange, started working again....

I think it's a sever side issue or regional perhaps. I just opened and browsed around a while and didn't have any issues. I don't use the Beta though so perhaps it's a Beta issue.

I'm sorry to hear you have to go, I will definitely miss these columns. I think they were a large part of what I enjoyed. Looks like quite a job, maybe somebody would pick it back up at least in part or a summarized version.

Humble Indie Bundle 9 Has Bloody Landed
11 Sep 2013 at 7:23 pm UTC

I guess it's great for people who don't have these games already. I'm pretty sure during the Steam Summer Sale, most of these were accumulated by us. I'll wait to see what the extras are since I already have most of these. I'll definitely gift a copy for my bro though, he doesn't have any of these.

Nuclear Dawn Will Come To Linux After All, Thanks To Valve

That's awesome of Valve to supply what they needed. And I'm happy to see they think Linux is an important platform for them.
