So the software ecosystem will be a failure no matter what, because no distro ever will have all apps in repos by default.
Hours?
By "learning", again, I didn't meaning "know how to compile stuff etc.", but for example just be able to add a PPA and install the software needed after that as usual.
I mean it's pretty simple and will not take hours to do it (you can do that in GUI, without the terminal I think).
Did you never add a PPA on your system? I just want to understand et be sure we understand each other.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyReading your answer, I'm wondering if we speak about the same thing. :huh:Quoting: CyrilIf it's important enough software I may have to learn that stuff, but I don't want to, it would be hours wasted from my life that I can never get back. I would consider it a failure of the software ecosystem that I was put in that position.Quoting: Purple Library GuyEven if it means you can't use a software you want?Quoting: CyrilBut the real question maybe is: do you want to learn? :tongue:Well, I dunno about Linuxer, but I don't. Or rather, I don't want to learn this topic. There is too much knowledge in the world to learn it all, and I have different priorities.

I recently got my Steam Deck and haven't noticed any major performance dip using it compared to native??? It's a genuine question, I'm new to Linux and I'm trying to learn the basics.
I'm just glad nobody has yet yelled that I should just run it in Proton.

That's what I meant by basic things, understand that some apps are only available outside of repos and, if wanted, how to install them the easy way for you.
One you done it one time... and some times, it'll become easier.
It's really not difficult, you don't have to get a degree in IT (I don't have one).
You have to start somewhere though, not an issue, learn step by step.
But the real question maybe is: do you want to learn?
Also: "he said never add a ppa their dangerous and wait for a snap package" is the horror for me.

Quoting: Linuxerbut installing an app is basics? usually i just click on store to install or download and click to install. i asked from a friend tho. he said never add a ppa their dangerous and wait for a snap package  well ok i'll wait. i'm not lookin for a degree in computer science  i know these thigns are easy for all of you but not me as you can proly tell tooYes it is. Not all apps will be in the repositories... there will be always apps like this that you could only install outside of them, be it: compilation, or a PPA, or a Snap/flatpak/AppImage package etc.
i can wait this is not dat important

But for now, the easiest way for you, as you're on Ubuntu, is to install it via PPA really, how to here:

Quoting: Linuxerhoww do i launch or install this... downloaded https://github.com/ckb-next/ckb-next/archive/refs/tags/v0.6.0.tar.gz [External Link] and extracted an bunch of files apeared but none of them brings an install program or launch when doubble clicking .... like the earlier poster said URG :shock:You need to learn/understand some basic things about all of this, and after it won't be difficult as it seems.
edit: i realize to make the quickinstall file executable from menus an then launch but:
/home/tuxer/Downloads/ckb-next-0.6.0/quickinstall: line 51: cmake: command not found
An error occurred,
press enter to exit.
so this software doesn't work or am i just dumb as shoes!?

DevilutionX continues improving classic Diablo and Hellfire

Their "How to" is pretty simple here:
https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX#how-to-install [External Link]
You can download their appimage file for Linux too, maybe it's the simplest method.
Or you can use/install Lutris, open it and search for game scripts to install on the search bar for Diablo.
Chose the one "GOG + DevilutionX version" and Lutris do the thing for you.
But I didn't use any of these myself, I just compiled the software (from the AUR = Arch User Repository) and it works fine too.
Are you new to the Linux world? Welcome!
PS: but you do need to have bought Diablo 1 on GOG thought, or the original CD, the engine will not work without it. Or use the shareware version but not the entire game.

Quoting: RapaxDevilutionX is an opensource engine to let you play Diablo 1 natively on Linux, or any other platform/OS (they have Switch, 3DS, Amiga, Android, iOS, macOS, PS4, PS Vita...).Quoting: Kronos_MOTAs an FYI, if you own Diablo from GOG and use Lutris, there is an option to install the GOG version with DevilutionX right through Lutris.Oh please tell me how did it go? Did you manage to get it to run through steam? Have you tried it out yet? Can you please give me simple instructions step by step on how to get Diablo 1 to run on Linux. I have seen Lutris app in my software catalogue on Debian. I am only using steam to purchase and play games on Linux. I have no idea what is DevilutionX
That's the way I loaded it and it set everything up for me.
Next I will try the same thing on my Steam Deck and see how that goes...
But I really want to play Diablo 1, if you could give simple instructions here I would really appreciate it man

Linux kernel 6.4 is out now

Last time I tried I still had issues with kernels 6.2 and 6.3 on my desktop, it seems to boot but X doesn't start/the screen is "glitchy".
But 6.1 works fine. And on my laptop 6.3 is doing well (same distro).
I might give a try on 6.4...

I don't trust these devs anymore, since their latest game didn't have Linux/macOS versions on GOG but Steam did.
And its seems this new game won't be on GOG at all... so even worse.

But seriously, maybe you mean something else by "more gamepad friendly"... as "Improved Gamepad UI" is planned for the 1.7.0 release [External Link], so you'll have to wait a bit longer I think, to have the best experience.:heart:

Quoting: slaapliedjeBut DevilutionX already have gamepad support... Am I missing something? :huh:Quoting: Kronos_MOTAs an FYI, if you own Diablo from GOG and use Lutris, there is an option to install the GOG version with DevilutionX right through Lutris.Wonder if they could make it more gamepad friendly with DevilutionX. Then you'd have the best of both worlds, the higher resolution / zoom out of the PC version, with the gamepad support of the PSX version.
That's the way I loaded it and it set everything up for me.
