Quoting: Cyba.Cowboy
Quoting: PublicNuisanceI'm going to hold off buying the Steam version for a bit in hopes it comes to GOG. I'm a patient man.
I wouldn't hold your breath - I have a lot of games in my library or or on my "wish" list on GOG.com that have a native Linux version on Steam, but not on GOG.com... Many of which are older games easily ported to Linux.
Its not the ease of the port that is the hold up its license fees when cdproject red (gog) do the deal on a game unless the developer wants their game on linux or mac its not coming to linux and mac. Now whether gog push for that is a matter to ask someone over at gog but its not my theory on it, licensing issues has been what gog has said the problem was more than once on twitter.

I believe Freedom Fighters is one of them he did at one point have a list but its not around on his site anymore he was talking on twitter about the games he has on his list to port had very little chance to be huge commerical sucess which is why he was happy about his pateron funding.

An interview with the developer of DXVK, part of what makes Valve's Steam Play tick

Quoting: crabelI think, Proton is great. I have already installed a couple of games I got through Humble Bundle or somewhere else that were windows only. My thanks to everybody who has contributed to this. First of all, the Wine guys, Valve, Mr. Philip Rebohle here and of course all those other people that made this possible.

Curious:
What do the Wine people themselves think? I mean, the actual developers/contributors?

What are the chances DXVK will become part of Wine?
Or to be more general: Other parts of Proton?
Silm to none given that Valve is actively paying for the development of DXVK while it intially supported wine financially am not sure if that is ongoing that a question for valve that maybe gol can ask. However valve are at least contrubuting the code for proton to wine and its fix commits which is what lutris has currently updated to its basically wine with protons patches.

What are you clicking on this weekend and what do you think about it?

Quoting: MakiSince Steam Play/Proton allowed me to play them again, I've been revisiting some of my old Windows-based games;
In recent days I've gone deep into Port Royale 2 & 3 (making spreadsheets to keep track of trade routes et al) and will revisit the Patrician series afterwards. I got to revisit Pandora in the original Borderlands (Still not released for Linux even if the sequel and pre-sequel are) as well, so I can finally connect it to the events in its sequels. I'm having some trouble with Fallout 3/New Vegas (but that's true for running it on Windows as well) and have to look if I can apply the unofficial patches to their Proton installations...

On the native side, Two Point Hospital has been a wonderful release recently, harkening back to Theme Hospital (which I never got working well through CorsixTH for some reason...) and the Early Access title Rise of Industry is making amazing progress.

So, lots to keep me busy this weekend, and probably through the next week.
Got to say I have had zero problems running fallout 3 and nv using lutris i know its another step but I have found having lutris which has now been updated to include the patches and submits proton has made as well as some custom patches like making it possible to halo 2 on linux just works for me. Now when it comes to controller support i ll admit that proton is better out of the box i have found some sucess using xboxdrv with lutris but others who have more patience may have better like than me.

Did you know that there's a native version of Prey awaiting you, done by Ryan Gordon? Works splendid, even on Intel IGPs.

Yup I have the retail copy put the code into steam and the linux version unlocked for me

Well the star is in the shape of chaos marines from warhammer and 8 pointed star there were so many warhammer licenced games not on linux it could be any of them.

Despite promising an Early Access release, Crazy Justice is out only for backers for now and it's rougher than expected

MMM linux only BR game and its a stinker so far, I do not get putting it in backer hands in this state what are you trying to say there is no way you should think that is acceptable and if they do think levels of bugs like that are acceptable well it was nice knowing you, you ll never make a game again hope it was worth it.

Valve's Steam Play should work better today, as DXVK was left in debug mode causing a performance drop

Quoting: ChronariusWhat about non-Steamgames? Can I run them with Steam Play too?
Well i suppose techincally if you added the product to steam using the add the product to steam button as long as you had the exe files and not a "backup" version then i cant see why not.
I think it is a little bit more complicated then that. As first step I have to install the game, before I can add it to the library. I'm not so sure that Steam Play supports this...yet.
Probably unlikely too as well as valve kind of want you to spend money on their site but it could be an added feature its day two of the beta
