But there in lies the rub, we need a big time publisher with a big time triple a game to do a day one release on linux so there is no advantage to being on windows. I know there are big ish publishers supporting linux with some of their titles but landing something like COD/BF/Witcher 3 or no way linux companies like Bethesda or Rockstar launching games on linux, would love to see Red Dead 2 but i doubt its even coming to pc at this point.

Possibly because look at the number of Linux titles that were made in Unity now look at the number of Linux titles made with Unreal there is your answer hundreds with unity 2 with unreal 4

Similar to the dosbox wrapper games under windows steam

That would be a neat feature but unlikely due to licensing, your best bet would be to run lutris which pretty much does what you are talking about.

Awesome work the guys at wine are doing DX9 feature complete and DX11 heading that way too. Putting aside the should you play games on wine argument, It is a hell of an achievement.

Microsoft can stop us form using their libraries: if I recall correctly, in every EULA of their redistributable is stated that you can't use it outside Windows. That's why the WINE devs are reimplementing a lot of DLLs.

Also the Microsoft EULA is completely unenforceable legally speaking in any country in many countries.

you say dev kind of stretching it he is a modder using arma code to make a game that is stand alone.The reason why it's not on linux is i expect because he has no idea how to make a linux port or how to change the code for a linux port. He and his team (if there is one) are clearly talented but player unknown is a mod that blew up to a full game (with one map and shit loads of glitches)
