Quoting: ColomboI would be a bit negative here.

Shadow warrior was from my point boring linear shooter. I expected interesting maps as in old Shadow Warrior (which, if I remember, was similar to Duke Nukem with a lot of interesting scenery, interactivity and hidden locations), but maps were too linear and quite boring. The same could be said about weapons, which provided just common stuff (SMG, shotgun) and lacked big bad things, but still the most used weapon was katana, which forced usage of one special move which healed DMG (and thus it was the most efficient to just spam this as any DMG was instantly healed, plus it did quite a lot of DMG even to bullet sponges).

As for enemies, they were quite boring, not only that most enemies just teleported on you in specific locations (so you didn't have an alternative way to attack them or avoid them), but I to this day I can remember only two types of enemies, standard daemon and daemon with shield (+ humans, which for some reason were later bullet sponges as well).

Killing the same enemy again and again started to be quite boring, especially when provided tools did not changed.

But I think the same about the newest Bioshock, while location, provided tools and part of story was relatively interesting, it turned into boring linear game due to pure repetition of these things without proper pacing (which was better in games like Deus Ex, where one could stop and talk again before shooting everything)
Fair enough I play games for story so Shadow Warrior was not for me in the end but then nor was the original it was a kill everything game yeah it had some puzzle layout to the levels. But like a lot of older games you are looking back with rose tinted glasses. We've all done it talked about how great x game was from when we were younger. If you play it again now it's usually not that great and the flaws you never noticed back then become very apparent. Like all the people that think Goldeneye on the N64 still holds up graphically and gameplay wise today spoiler it doesnt.

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI purchased this game on Humble bundle a long time ago and it includes the DRMFREE version...
Do the FREE game includes the DRMFREE version or just the Steam key?
Nope just a steam key

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTActually part of the problem is already us: Honestly, who did buy a steam machine, a steam controler or uses SteamOS here in the forum? I
we dont need it, we already use linux so we already count to the linux marketshare.
the money we would spent geting an steam machine to not improve the marketshare at all, could be better spent buying games for linux instead.

steam machines need to sell to the ones who dont use linux not to the ones who already to, in order to be effective to change the things on the market.

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTSo what is the user base they so actually aim for?
that is the question
They have to be aiming it at console players the fact the default view drops you into big picture mode. If you are already using Linux chances are there is no way you are dropping you're distro to go to steam os.

No vulkan is not dead Ballistic overkill recently updated others are following on. Feral working on vulkan makes sense as they will need to continue to develop tools to help them port games and get the best performance they can. Steam OS sure they could drop it I do not see it happening anytime soon, MS has gone hard on the Windows app store something Valve do not have access too. Such measures make senior members of valve more favourable to putting resources into Linux.

Beyond Enemy Lines, a single-player tactical FPS looks like it's heading to Linux (updated)

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Could be interesting story driven fps on linux would be nice as we tend to get arena shooters and very little in terms of narrative driven fps games.
Huh? Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Spec Ops: The Line, the Metro games, ect... It's modern arena shooters that we're severely lacking.
Spec ops is third person/ If you're Mankind as a straight fps you're doing it wrong. The metro games yeah all two of them good stories but they are old the last one if we are not talking redux was what 3/ 4 years ago. The new metro game has not been confirmed for linux yet and they are radio silent about linux on twitter.

No we aren't Ballistic Overkill is a modern arena shooter and pretty good one too then theres Xenotic/Alien Arena all the quake engine based games Cube/Saubrauten etc etc there are tons of arena shooters. But story driven games fps not many of those 2 in your list. Shadow Warrior was not a story driven fps its a brainless mindless kill everything with story and narrative a severe distant afterthought.

Not to say i am never in the mood for something like that but i prefer my games to have a plot and a reason to care.

I am guessing unreal 3 or unity for the engine judging by the graphics. Could be interesting story driven fps on linux would be nice as we tend to get arena shooters and very little in terms of narrative driven fps games.

Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port, bring on the speculation

Quoting: JahimselfSo if both Feral and Slightly Mad Studios are located around the same bus route, knowing that the bus can swim, then could it be a way to cross-platforms?
Feral do not seem to link to steam workshop/multi player the way aspyr do which is a shame.

Steam just keeps growing according to a presentation Valve did recently, UI update is coming

Quoting: LeopardThat looks pointless to me actually. I don't care about how Steam and it's Windows user base grows.

Valve should encourage Linux usage on Asia , that is the only way i can be happy about this kind of news.
People in certain parts of asia mainly china just do not pay for software thats why Windows is completely free out there in stripped out form and game prices on steam are upto 70 percent cheaper just so games developers might see some money. Unless its an MMo featuring school girls or Angels they seem to do very well in Korea and Japan.

The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

I think it goes back to the large vocal group on linux that has a great deal of programming knowledge themselves. So as a group they are less willing to accept anything less than parity with windows version of a game. Look at the forums when VP was announced as the the studio chosen to port Micro Machines a large portion of comments were omg great its being handled by the cheapest and shitest outfit out there when it comes to ports.

I was not full time linux when Witcher 2 was released but i saw how brutal the port was the death threats and bile were certainly uncalled for and VP did eventually make Witcher 2 playable however they should not of released it until it was in that state at launch.
