Quoting: ShmerlNot sure about others, but I've heard Skyrim runs very well already. At least the classic one (was there a remaster)? I'm not keeping track of Bethesda games. The last good TES game was Morrowind, and for that we have OpenMW. :)

Regarding general progress, DX11 is pretty big, so I guess it might take a while before it all will be implemented. But still, some games can work well even before that. TW3 is a good test case, because it's using really a lot of DX11 features and quite heavy ones.
skyrim runs flawlessly through lutris with controller support (under wine) note this is for the original steam version with the optional hd texture pack no the later def version.

Quoting: GuestI must say I am not quite sure why it is being assumed that because it's a first day release of Mac/Linux alongside Windows, it's assumed that the work on this is being done in house. This is not a given at all.
When you look at the Steam page, it's Codemaster's all over the place in the editors/distributors informations. No mention of Feral, Aspyr or VP. Other ports usually mention the porting studio. It's sure not a certainty and it might get updated in the coming days/weeks, but for the moment it looks like an in house port.
wait is this an xna game in which case it will be flibitygibibo the guy that can port a game in under 60 seconds

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Biggest problem will be do they intend to charge anything for it because if they dont they should be fine legally if they charge down the line for anything MS will shaft them with a very large legal stick.
They've stated over and over that they will never charge for it, and will accept no monetary donations.
Well thats great however it could still be smited from on high it is very very close visually to Halo looks like it will be fun but some of visuals may have to be tweaked.

I sense an AMD APU based Steam Machine in a not so distant future :woot:
Aww thats cute you think Steam machines are still a thing
People fail to realize that Valve is in for the long term (I know, not a popular notion these days with shareholders impatient to get their 300% ROI in 6 months).
People also fail to realize Steam machines are not only there to protect Valve's market against microsoft, it's equally a tool to grab market share from consoles.

No I get the plan but Valve dont if they did they would not of said fuck and all about steam machines once they were out they would of pushed and spent whatever it took to get Steam OS ready to go day one on all Steam machines with Windows being a separate purchase. However they left oems to market the machines which was a huge mistake which means steam machines are dead failing a rebranding and a major push

Dell still has Steammamchines under their Alienware brand, and also with AMD GPU since sometime last year I think. I never heard of any using a AMD based steammachine from Alienware though and until this new update is released it wouldnt make much sense, but after maybe.
Yeah but they are not marketing them nobody is they have been seen as a massive flop so they have not bother updating the hardware.

[quote=Comandante Ñoñardo]I wonder if someday We gonna have a final SteamOS release, so porters and developers of steam-only games will do their job focused on that final SteamOS release and not generic Linux distros...

No because they do not target loads of distros they target Ubuntu LTS as that is the one that valve, feral and asypr target. When and if Steam OS becomes a full release that may well change to be targeted at Steam OS.

Quoting: PeciskIt seems Valve does move towards AMD based Steam Machines for next generation. It is certainly can be at least interesting, if not more. It certainly will cut down pricing of potential SMs.

And yes, AMD and Mesa devs have done incredible job. It is certainly coming back to compete with Nvidia.
There are never going to be more steam machines, Valve pretty much killed them by not marketing them by not having a finished os ready to go day one. Steam OS is still in beta three and half years on from initial availability. If Valve were to have another crack at Steam machines they either need to ship it with Steam OS 1.0 Full Release or Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04 depending on release schedule. People get very nervous when they see the words Beta and OS especially if you plan on doing work on these machines.
