Well... Indeed Origin has an small library, but is very well curated and it has a feature that make it far superior than Steam in terms of service; Origin Access... Valve MUST take note on that..

I think Feral must have a chat with EA.

About the SDK.
The idea of the audio occlusion is interesting..
I would love to have EA games come to Linux but be tough sell EA would want to control the api on linux and its whether they would put the initial resources on the client. Oh yeah I agree some time ago I bought BF1 for a friend but they already had it they gave me a full refund without arguing and i spoke to actual person and not a bot. The store is not really curated in the fact they only offer games from ubisoft and Ea if they could get the same number of studios as Valve on their system they would. Always remember this is EA we are talking about the original eater of studios and destroyer of franchises.

Then tell your beloved GOG to make some improvements.I would love to see that to,i want Witcher3 on Linux,Witcher 1 and Card Game and Adventure one too, which they support Mac and Windows.(except Witcher 3). Oh also i want to see client which is available for Mac and Windows.

You're all but talking,Gog does nothing. So if you can't accept this fact, there is no point of talking.

Valve is the pioneer of Linux gaming so far,so why not Gog take a step in this world?Ohh,wait. You're right. We're not profitable. That's not Valve thinks anyway.Thank you Valve.
Wait Valve are the pioneers of linux gaming how old are you like 10 it was actually ID that pioneered triple A gaming on linux back in the day and then after that Loki then it went dead for a long time and then valve came along they did not pioneer they merely picked up from where others left off.

Quoting: LeopardI don't think that will create a lock in.I think that is developed for especially SteamOS and also SteamMachines. Also it's helpful for Linux.

Microsoft is providing Dolby Atmos for Win10 and XboxOne.That's the counter for that i guess.
I can't see them open sourcing it though well either company really, but aside from Steam what choices do you genuinely have on Linux basically GOG and Ichio neither of which have the same range. Hell even on windows Origin and Uplay are hardly alternatives in terms of library. Of course depends of the type of game you mostly play and are into if you mainly go for indie games then there are options if you like more mainstream titles its Steam or Steam.

At this point is anyone surprised valve is locking in features, lots of people white knight valve but they do a lot of shady shite. I wont parrot Jim Sterling but he is not wrong about valve they are not a plucky indie company they are multi billion dollar corporation.

Quoting: Mountain ManI have Empire: Total War and Total Warhammer. That's more then enough Total War games for me at the moment, so I won't be getting Shogun.
Fair enough but it is the best one out of them all of them the units are balanced there are more options other than the limited options in warhammer or rome 2/attlia but i get what you mean I personally own all of them except Napoleon.
Shogun II was the first TW game after I stopped buying Windows games, and so , the first one I did not buy. As I also bought Rome II/Attila to support the CA Linux pledge, this is the only TW game In the back catalog I don't have, so I will certainly buy it.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I'll ever get TW Warhammer. I never really liked the Warhammer/WH 40,000 universes, as they always seemed limited and visually unappealing to my senses. But I guess CA have run out of popular historical periods without a recent game :-)
The Warhammer game is good however it is another Ca game that practically requires spending 40 pounds/dollars to get the game to have all the factions and maps.(Also there are still two full factions that are not playable)

Quoting: ZlopezSame with the DOW 2, I played all of the single campaings in all DOW 2 games on Linux, but I'm unable to find any multiplayer game. There were problem to find a game even on Windows a year ago. Now on Linux it is almost impossible.
Every Tuesday at 1PM UK time, Sam (from Feral) and Liam (from, well, here) get their Dawn of War II on. You should join them if you have time. Liam streams it and everything.

Quoting: chepatiA question for Feral: would it make sense if you did a poll once in a while to gauge interest in games? Give us a multiple-choice option so we can vote on which game we'd like to have you port. I know you want to build up hype for a game before its release and keep the mystery surrounding your releases, but readers on GOL could arguably be considered a good sample of the linux gaming demographic. So testing the waters before going full on into a game port would be good for everyone.
If interest alone was enough, you'd all be playing Skyrim right now. We can't really do a poll, because all the options would have to be games we are prepped to bring to Linux. And if we're prepped to bring them to Linux, we might as well bring you the whole lot.

But you're certainly making a good point, and I can confirm that we stalk the heck out of the Linux gaming community to gauge interest all the time. Whether it's polls, comments, likes, or whatever else, when we see demand for a game we sit up and take notice.
I understand that that you as a publisher say hey what game do you guys want us to go after and well get it. It nice to know you guys look at linux gaming community to see which is most talked about. I also realise it is am sure not straight forward to just approach a publisher and say we want port x game to linux.

Wine 2.2 released with even more Shader Model 5 instructions and work towards Direct3D command stream

Quoting: ShmerlComments he made weren't relevant even then. They were more of a rant. They are even less relevant today than they were then.
That's not proof the fact that Zenimax (ID/Bethesda) have no interest in supporting linux points to the fact those comments clearly shape their thinking today.

Comments made all those years ago are hardly relevant today.
Show me proof that it is not relevant ideally by booting up fallout 4 and skyrim under linux oh wait you cant because Bethesda and ID still have that same mindset.

Quoting: no_information_hereI may be wrong, but I have never heard a dev say "We don't need to port to Linux, those people will just buy it anyway and use Wine."

I think John Carmack said something like that [External Link]
Thanks to Comandante Ñoñardo for the link to the Carmack quote. I stand (partly) corrected.

However, I have always thought of Carmack as a technology guy, not a business guy. It is the business people who will decide whether Linux is worth porting to. People like Carmack can strongly influence that decision, but at the end of the day it is financial. If the linux market is promising enough, people will port games. My argument was that business people are not looking at wine as rendering the linux market potential zero. It has too small an impact for that.

Linux as a business proposition will stand on its own. Unless Wine suddenly become almost flawless in running 90% of all current Windows games, it does not really compete with porting games. To be honest, though, if was suddenly able to do that, I wouldn't mind at all.
