Fruit Tower Defense might not look like much but it's surprisingly good

Reminds me of Bloons TD5 now that I see it in action (and not just a screenshot). And that's good news, because Bloons TD 6 has just been released and instead of supporting Linux for the win, they've actually dropped Mac support and are now fully Windows-only. Urgh. Their model is mobile-first anyway, but still, I held out some hope of playing it.
I'll pick this up for definite.

Paradox Interactive have purchased the rights to Prison Architect from Introversion

I'm not defending Paradox's aggressive DLC model, but to expect extra content for nothing is just in my opinion a bit naive or, worse, entitled.
I think we can agree that Introversion are awesome people though. They went above and beyond, particularly on this title.

Quoting: emphyAnd to be clear, Introversion's way of supporting their title after release is completely unsustainable. People have to eat and pay rent/mortgage and giving away free content updates for years after release doesn't bring in any new money, beyond perhaps a trickle of sales.Quoting: scaineUp to now, all updates to the PC version of PA have had those extras for free. Introversion's way of supporting games after release is fundamentally different from that of paradox. Crudely stated: Introversion has provided extra value for money, whilst paradox is always trying to sell you more stuff.Quoting: pbSo much for free updates, welcome a swarm of dlc. That wouldn't be a bad thing. If you're happy with the value you got from the game's purchase, fine, just ignore the DLC. If you loved the game and would welcome more features and expansion, this is great news.
Unless you wanted all those extras for free...? In which case, I have no words! :)

Quoting: KimyrielleThat's a really pretty game for an Indie! This kind of quality you rarely see outside of a big-budget production. Shame it's first person only, though. Seems to be a genre issue. Not sure why it's so much asked for to give people the option to draw their character on the screen...Conversely, I'm not a fan of third person. I feel that it breaks the immersion. There aren't many games where I've thought that it works. I do like to see my legs in first person though, when I look down. Ever since Mirror's Edge, any first person game that doesn't give me legs irritates me irrationally.
For those wanting to try out Steam Play, the new Humble Monthly has Yakuza 0

EDIT:
If you look at this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denuvo [External Link], you can see by the "cracked" column whether a game is any good! The ones that aren't cracked are almost all, with a few exceptions, absolutely terrible games. I wonder what the incentive is to keep Denuvo on those. Must be a perpetual license or at the least, pre-paid for a number of years.
On the other hand, further down, you can see a list of games that have now removed Denuvo. As a result, I've bought Dishonored 2. Yep, that's right, publishers, your anti-consumer DRM was PREVENTING sales, not preserving them.
Infuriating. To be honest, if there's much more Denuvo on the Humble Monthly, I'll have to cancel it. I don't want my money associated with that product, even indirectly.

Quoting: ageresPretty much the reason I haven't installed this to try it yet. That shit is going nowhere near my system. I don't even cash in steam keys from Humble Bundles for titles that have Denuvo (except, annoyingly, by accident when I didn't notice that Metal Gear still used it <sigh>)Quoting: KohriasYakuza0 doesnt start due to "The server is not reachable, check your internet connection and click "Retry"."Sounds like you've been Denuvo'd.

Quoting: GuestOh nice I think this game is a great fusion of roguelike/card game mechanics and I'm a fan of both. My one main wish was more content so it could hit proper roguelike replayability and maybe this will help do that :DI have 75 hours in Slay the Spire and still play most nights. It's fantastic.

Quoting: g000hYou can buy it on Itch and there's a free Steam key. The Itch version is more regularly updated. It's an AWESOME game, only really bettered (in replayability) by Slay the Spire.Quoting: NezchanHave you tried Dicey Dungeons? I find it, too, scratches a similar itch with weird emergent combos and general one-more-turn-ness. Although it's very much in development, so while playable and fun it still has a ways to go.Haha, yes, I'm already aware of this title and it is on my Wishlist. Still, thanks for bringing it up and other GOL readers will be able to go check that one out too.

Yep, as others have said, the December unlocks were:
Linux native
Darkside Detective
>observer_
Regions of Ruin
Sundered
Wizard of Legend
Windows (playable on ProtonDB)
Project CARS 2
Windows (no reports on ProtonDB)
Q.U.B.E. 2
Windows (borked on ProtonDB)
Just Cause 3 XXL Edition
Of the native games, I only owned >observer_, so that's another huge win for me, personally. And I have to say that both Sundered and Wizard of Legend are excellent. I haven't played Regions of Ruin yet.
As for the Windows games, it's a shame that sometimes the early unlocks are Windows only, but at least we have Steam Play now to take the pain away somewhat.
I find myself slowly accepting Steam Play as a valid method of playing Windows games. I'm about 15 hours into Death of the Outside and I bought that, along with Dishonored 2, as a bundle in the Steam Sale for about a fiver. Incredible value and both titles work absolutely perfectly. To the point that, other than seeing the usual shitty "installing DirectX" pop ups the first time you play, you wouldn't know that these aren't native games.
Oh - that's not quite true. Death of the Outsider grabs the keyboard in a way that you can't Alt-Tab out, even from the Steam Overlay, which is a bit annoying. But gameplay-wise, it's perfect.
Looking forward to seeing what 2019 brings us.

Smooth scrolling would be nice, I suppose...

Quoting: SalvatosHave to agree. The ONLY thing that annoys me about the Steam client is that it doesn't respect Gnome window decorations. So I can't right click on its border to send it to back, for example. I'm also lucky that I use a mainly dark theme so that it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb.Quoting: CreakMeh. That's just me, but most of those are hardly a bother to me and I'd gladly keep those minor inconveniences over the risk of yet another mobile-first overhaul that dumbs things down and makes actual info harder to get to and/or sacrifices screen real estate in favor of huge shiny graphics. Many of those issues could be fixed within the context of the current design instead of rebuilding everything.Quoting: SalvatosTo be honest I don't see it either.
- Encumbered UI
- Poorly made preferences/config window with way too many options that are difficult to memorize
- No smooth scrolling
- Not responsive/slow
- Using several windows (the same complaint everyone told about GIMP)
- Popups that keep stealing focus at startup
- Uselessly complex badge system (with badge levels into badges)
- Workshop that says "Follow" when you would simply expect "Install"
- and so on and so forth..
Smooth scrolling would be nice, I suppose...

Quoting: slaapliedjeNeverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition is still 3.5 Edition of D&D as far as I know.Nope, I was just utterly convinced that it used v4 for some reason! I'll update my spiel in the article in a while - need to rush out the door right now!
The Neverwinter MMO game is 4th Edition, so maybe that is where the confusion is?
