Yeah, I don't think unifying would work, but I do think we have far too much diversity and it hurts. But it's all about the ego - if you contribute to a project and your contributions are rejected... you fork. It's that simple.
What's interesting to me is that Gnome is particularly bad here. It's a nice interface, but they keep making unpopular decisions, which cause forks. How many forks of KDE are there? How many of XFCE? But already we have Unity, Mate and Cinammon as examples of where people flicked the Gnome devs the middle finger.

Quoting: GoboNice idea of a series, looking forward to more of those articles! Thanks! I did put that very same link in my comment above, but re-reading it, I see how you'd have missed it! I'm looking forward to these articles. They're a bit of work, but I'm nearly finished the second, then I'll see what kind of schedule I can keep.
About keeping track of your articles: there is a page listing publications by author, so here is yours.

Second PIN should be ready towards the weekend, then I intend to put them out every fortnight or so, depending on beer intake (and subsequent hangover) and social commitments taking me away from my happy gaming place.
Thanks for the interest, everyone.

Quoting: BeamboomNice idea for a new series Scaine, and welcome to the writer staff :) (you've not published that many articles earlier, have you? Or have I just not noticed?)I used to write for the Funding Crowd with Muntdefems, the_s_d, Flesk and DrMcCoy - that was about 30 or so articles over a couple of years. And I've contributed the odd article here and there under my own name (full list, but my 10 or so contributions are simply lost in the noise of the thousands of articles that Liam produces!
Quoting: Ray54I very much appreciate what you are doing with this new series. I wonder if occasionally you could cover some simpler games that do not require much investment in time (learning and completing). I particularly like games where there is a demo level to try before buying.Great shout! Some of my candidates are indeed pretty straightforward, while some do benefit from a bit of dedication. I'll keep my eyes peeled for demos when I put them together.

Quoting: EhvisNice to see that there are still games that fell through the cracks. Don't think this one is entirely my cup of tea, but maybe the next PIN is.I have quite a few lined up, from all genres. I hope I find something to pique your interest!

God, that would be pretty amazing to be honest. Been lusting after Nier Automata since it came out. Perhaps too new a title though? It was only released just over 12 months ago. Look at Rise of the Tomb Raider, which we only just got... it's a late 2015 title, taking nearly three years to reach us!

Quoting: GuestNier Automata Wikipedia plot description:Published by Square Enix, which is a nice tie in to the Tomb Raider titles that are also published by Square, so Feral clearly seem to have a business relationship going on there...
Nier: Automata opens with 2B and 9S opening the way for a future incursion into machine territory, working to clear out machine threats for the local Resistance. With help from Anemone and later Pascal, 2B and 9S defeat multiple machine threats. During their missions, they witness the birth of and later fight Adam and Eve, physical manifestations of the machine network who reveal that their creators were destroyed centuries ago.I would totally buy Nier Automata if it came to Linux.
Dark Souls would also be awesome, but who knows.

Quoting: MakiI deleted my account there when the news broke.I did the same. Delighted to discover that "scaine" is available on GitLab too, so I've registered there for now. I wonder if there's a way to report on Github account numbers? I'd love to see if this news had any material effect on account numbers, or if it's just a case of the "Tim Sweeneys" - complaining loudly, but not actually doing anything about it.

Quoting: LeopardI wondered what you were quoting, but found it in the Steam update news [External Link]. I don't think it sound silly - it's just an acknowledgement that we don't get all games, like you say, so it's nice to have one more.We know being a Linux gamer is hard enough already, so this is something we're very happy to finally deliver. That is not true at all , this message sounds like there are just bunch Tuxkart'ish games out there for Linux. Sure , we don't have all games but that statement is just silly.
Also, this is great...
The Linux port shares all the same content, plus cross-platform multiplayer and Steam Cloud saves with its older Windows brother.....although I can't imagine it has a huge online presence!

I think I'm going to have to pick this up. I think you or Sin streamed it a few months back and it looked fun, and this is just icing.
Also, one of the funniest trailers I've seen in ages. The voice over guy's energy is immense!

I do think it's a bit disingenuous to ask a entire section of people who can't play your game to share/tweet/like and basically promote it on the off chance that the developer suddenly decides to make the effort to release.
They already know what the effort is, particularly since they've supported us before. They just need to make a risk-based decision as to whether it's worth it (financially) or worthwhile (goodwill and ethically sound, supporting the little guy).
