Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem (previously Umbra) will not have a Linux version during alpha or beta

I'd steer clear of this until you see a SteamOS logo on the store pages. Too many warning signs for me.

It's always really sad when the first I hear of a project I'd definitely buy is a GOL article noting that it's on rocky ground to come to Linux.

I'll wishlist it along with Prey, Vermintide 2 and PUBG, but with about as hope as it will arrive...

Quoting: nijiwarWhat hapening with #THEREQUESTINATOR?All spoken games there discussed again here.
The Requestinator is still happening, but it's just a popularity contest - a big wishlist of things people would like to see.

Feral are being more nuanced here:
  • Pick ONE game

  • WHY would you pick that game

Sadly, that's been lost in the enthusiasm and once again, we have most folk shouting big lists of games they'd like to see without any context beyond "I want".

It's just Feral engaging with their fanbase. I wouldn't read too much into this format vs the requestinator, but sometimes the story behind why you want a given game is more interesting than the request itself.

I love the look of this, but also, I'm pretty sure it's just going to be too hard for me. It looks Meatboy hard. Throw-your-controller-across-the-room hard. Die-so-many-times-you-die-inside hard.

Genuinely not sure I'd enjoy it...

Thinking of the why first here, I want a game, any game, which keeps people on Windows. Right now, my top votes for that would be: PUBG, Fortnite, Overwatch or Paladins. So pretty much any of these would be an unbelievable win for Linux. The fact that I'd play any of them to death if they were available Linux is just a bonus!

More selfishly, I'm a gigantic fan of Dishonoured, so I'd love to see Dishonoured 2 come to Linux for more ghost/stealth/action. Deus Ex: MD was a huge win, but Dishonoured is just fantastic.

Even more selfishly? Some big AAA, story-driven shooter, like Prey, or the new Doom, or Wolfenstein.

Pick one though? PUBG, even though it's my least favourite out of all these... it's the one that would get most people interested in Linux. And I'd still play it loads.

Quoting: BeamboomLooked cool, but very odd movement in that you can only turn 90 degrees and advance like on a game board. Wonder what the reasoning is behind this odd design decision? To emulate a board game?
I would think it is more likely to emulate the old dungeon crawler formula.
Dungeon crawlers have already made a comeback, haven't they? I thought even you young whippersnappers would be familiar with Legend of Grimrock if not the rest.

But man, good old Dungeon Master, the Eye of the Beholder series, Lands of Lore, Captive, Bloodwych, the Might and Magic series, Ishar... Now that I think about it, it must have been an important genre before "real" 3D rpg games arrived on the scene.
Bloodwych! Nostalgia ahoy! I played hundreds of hours of that as an early teen with my best friend at the time, two characters each. Amazing game.

Also, Hired Guns - not joking, me and three mates completed that over various sessions by playing two mice plugged into the Amiga, and one player on each side of the keyboard. What a game!

But yeah, it was Dungeon Master that made it all possible. Completed it countless times - four player party, three player party, two player party, but I don't think I managed it with just a single character.

So, yeah, played a lot of these - Fall of the Dungeon Guardians was the most recent one, but I found it just too much to keep track of. Much more tactical than something like Legend of Grimrock.

Wishlisted this a week ago and was notified about its release this morning. I'll be buying it tonight, it looks amazing and the glowing review is great news.

Impressive graphics. Not sure I still dig the whole grid-based dungeon crawling experience (I've played a lot of them), but I think I'll probably give this a shot, purely because it's single character. I get tired trying to track the multiple capabilities of four characters - you play, take a week's break, then can't get back into the game because you've forgotten it all!

Looks incredibly polished already and great to see a further push for quality. Still gutted that Linux is after release though. It's a familiar story, but until we see same day releases as the norm, we'll never be sure of what quantity of market share Linux is really capable of achieving. And it's unlikely to grow - dual booters will continue to dual boot after all, so they'll have likely already bought the game - Linux support at that point is just convenience and the sale is already attributed.

(Not an attack on dual booting - did it myself for a few years and it's an essential stepping stone for many)

No, seriously, I've got the hint.
Quoting: liamdaweHalf-Life 3 doesn't even exist, Squadron 42 hardly exists, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't exist yet either.

Rise of the Tomb Raider does exist, it's already released as a full game on Windows and people suspect it's a possible port from Feral, just look at the replies here. So yes, there are indications.
OK. But, just for the sake of clarification, you do know people have been seeing "indications" [External Link] for all those aforementioned games since who knows what time, don't you? And, Windows release speaks nothing about forthcoming Linux release (see "The Witcher 3", for example). Feral may drop hints however they want, this does not prove a thing (I do remember those "The Witcher 3 coming to SteamOS™" banners, thank you! ).
I did a fair bit of vetting on the entries for Liam (there was a LOT of submissions), and I think we had that exact discussion - where do we draw the line on some of the "anticipated" entries? I think I knocked back a couple because they had no indication they were coming, but then started questioning it - thinking very much like yourself... why aren't we allowing anything?

In the end, Liam agreed that a) this was a bit of fun so b) allow wishlists. But by then, as I say, I'd already knocked some on the head.

So, basically: sorry!
