Quoting: TheSHEEEP"Passionate argument about something they hate
You don't like VR, we get it. This isn't something you can actually argue about though, you know? You have your opinion, other people have theirs.

Guess what? We're both right, even though I still think you're wrong (and oh so clearly, vice versa). Cool, eh?

When VR comes, I'll be the happiest little 40-something on the planet. You'll continue to ignore it. Win win. It's a bit like running Linux in that regard - when's the year of the Linux desktop? For me, it was every year since 2013.

Regardless of where you stand on the subject though, there's no need to get personal. Calling people sheep, or narrow-minded/short-sighted for not agreeing with your opinion only undermines your own position.

@beniwtv - Edge of Nowhere looks incredible (with or without VR). Would love to see something like come to Linux.

If you think VR is "the future", you're probably thinking in the wrong terms. Like theSheep's reply above, thinking that Kinnect would somehow replace controllers. That's not the point of VR at all.

It's more like a steering wheel when you're passionate about driving games. Sure, it's expensive, it's not for everyone and you don't have to have it. But when you drive with a wheel, then go back to a controller, you'll suddenly recognise the latter as the cheap, ineffective let down it is.

Similarly, when you've played certain games/experiences in VR, there's absolutely no way to recapture what made them special WITHOUT the VR element. Longbow without VR is just a low-poly Operation Wolf clone. But in VR, you actually draw the arrows back. You actually lean over the parapet for better angles. The whole thing comes alive.

I don't want this to be the future - I want it to be my present. It's epic.

Also, anyone who naysays against VR should prefix their naysaying with "I've tried it, and I don't think it's the future because...". Because if you haven't tried it, you (literally) don't know what you're talking about.

I'm confused by your post. Where are you getting "95.5% Windows" from...?

I still don't see it. They don't quote operating systems at all in that picture. Maybe they changed it.

I'd steer clear of this until you see a SteamOS logo on the store pages. Too many warning signs for me.

It's always really sad when the first I hear of a project I'd definitely buy is a GOL article noting that it's on rocky ground to come to Linux.

I'll wishlist it along with Prey, Vermintide 2 and PUBG, but with about as hope as it will arrive...

Quoting: nijiwarWhat hapening with #THEREQUESTINATOR?All spoken games there discussed again here.
The Requestinator is still happening, but it's just a popularity contest - a big wishlist of things people would like to see.

Feral are being more nuanced here:
  • Pick ONE game

  • WHY would you pick that game

Sadly, that's been lost in the enthusiasm and once again, we have most folk shouting big lists of games they'd like to see without any context beyond "I want".

It's just Feral engaging with their fanbase. I wouldn't read too much into this format vs the requestinator, but sometimes the story behind why you want a given game is more interesting than the request itself.

I love the look of this, but also, I'm pretty sure it's just going to be too hard for me. It looks Meatboy hard. Throw-your-controller-across-the-room hard. Die-so-many-times-you-die-inside hard.

Genuinely not sure I'd enjoy it...

Thinking of the why first here, I want a game, any game, which keeps people on Windows. Right now, my top votes for that would be: PUBG, Fortnite, Overwatch or Paladins. So pretty much any of these would be an unbelievable win for Linux. The fact that I'd play any of them to death if they were available Linux is just a bonus!

More selfishly, I'm a gigantic fan of Dishonoured, so I'd love to see Dishonoured 2 come to Linux for more ghost/stealth/action. Deus Ex: MD was a huge win, but Dishonoured is just fantastic.

Even more selfishly? Some big AAA, story-driven shooter, like Prey, or the new Doom, or Wolfenstein.

Pick one though? PUBG, even though it's my least favourite out of all these... it's the one that would get most people interested in Linux. And I'd still play it loads.

I would think it is more likely to emulate the old dungeon crawler formula.
Dungeon crawlers have already made a comeback, haven't they? I thought even you young whippersnappers would be familiar with Legend of Grimrock if not the rest.

But man, good old Dungeon Master, the Eye of the Beholder series, Lands of Lore, Captive, Bloodwych, the Might and Magic series, Ishar... Now that I think about it, it must have been an important genre before "real" 3D rpg games arrived on the scene.
Bloodwych! Nostalgia ahoy! I played hundreds of hours of that as an early teen with my best friend at the time, two characters each. Amazing game.

Also, Hired Guns - not joking, me and three mates completed that over various sessions by playing two mice plugged into the Amiga, and one player on each side of the keyboard. What a game!

But yeah, it was Dungeon Master that made it all possible. Completed it countless times - four player party, three player party, two player party, but I don't think I managed it with just a single character.

So, yeah, played a lot of these - Fall of the Dungeon Guardians was the most recent one, but I found it just too much to keep track of. Much more tactical than something like Legend of Grimrock.
