Quoting: ElectricPrismOctober eh? I have been waiting to go AMD on the CPU, I'm down hopefully they have some Mini ITX motherboards that kickass. You'd have to go Ryzen 7 with itx as the threadripper (TR4) socket is way too big to fit onto an itx board. The smallest you can go with TR is matx and the x399M Taichi currently, though you lose four ram slots.

This cpu is more than a cpu, it’s a part of my livelihood. I use it every day to help me earn money. That’s how I can justify it. Sure, it’s overkill for gaming but there’s a lot more that I do.

2990WX Here I come! It'll help me with training for my RHCA/other homelab stuff.
I don't NEED it...but I want it, which means I need it. I think a drug addiction would be cheaper at this point. :D
Edit: Pre-ordered!

The 4K option is only available with the GTX 1070. +1 to Ryzen/Vega machines from them.
Quoting: velemasJust use Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC with Ryzen 1700 (8 cores, 16 threads, no Meltdown, no Nvidia blob) for $1499. Runs Arch Linux perfectly.I had this machine for a while. I just wish it wasn't ruined by a "meh" color accurate panel and the dated black/red gamer theme. I don't want to be laughed at while I'm at work.

Update: 4.17rc2 + Mesa 18.X-git results in 37-40fps. So about +5fps better than mesa 17.3.8. Still have no idea why 18 is required for Vega GPUs.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is now officially available on Linux, here’s a look at it with benchmarks

Can't we just agree that we all have different opinions of what looks good and enjoy the game? That's what I'm doing.

Quoting: pete910I was referring to the actual program that's part on the AMD driver on windows, not the underling functionsGotcha. Radeon software on Linux would be nice. I'll just be happy if I can achieve similar results as it doesn't matter (to me) how I interact with "wattman."

Quoting: pete910I was kinda hoping that AMD's Wattman would come to us but I should doubt it will :(
Quoting: DisharmonicActually there's Wattman like functionality in 4.17Yep! This is what I was referring to and I personally can't wait.
Initial wattman-like supportTaken from here [External Link], which is also referenced in the above phoronix link. Thanks Disharmonic.

Quoting: pete910Does the FE use have different clocks to the rx64 ?Yes, The FE has higher base and boost clocks, though mine does throttle a bit unless I force the fans/undervolt (currently not possible on Linux - waiting for 4.17). After my exam I'm going to give it the liquid metal treatment to see if that improves things a little bit.

Quoting: pete910Here's mine @1440p V-High preset FXXAOur resolutions aren't that much different and yet there's ~30ish frame difference so it really makes me want to retry with Mesa 18. Might have to fire up Fedora/Ubuntu...AFTER my exam that is.
