The Open Source Game Corner, Highlighting Some Projects

My favourite by far is the 0AD project, the fact that it will never be stable is not in itself a problem as it is more than easily playable. Think of it as a kind of Dwarf Fortress experiment. It is stable enough to be played, but it is going to have additional content and tweaks added for life.
OpenMW, OpenXcom, and the many others are all really interesting projects. It's a shame that some projects are discontinued, but as some of these projects are just maintained by people who have a full time job and family to look after, and life sometimes takes over....

A Year Ago Today Valve Released Steam For Linux

Yes Happy Birthday!
In the world, there is the 1% of privileged people, and in the Gaming world there is now a whooping 1.6% of privileged gamers.
Joke aside, I am amazed at the progress made in a few months.
Thanks for maintaining this website. With the exception of a few games like 0AD, Amnesia, I used to only consider gaming on Windows before the Humble Bundles, then DESURA (Thanks Desura) and then some time later Steam, so this website was completely under my radar until quite recently.
One thing I would like to see that would finalise the dream, with a little pink bow, is GOG finally offering the Linux binaries, and / or giving us a selection of dosbox games ready packaged.
Oh, and maybe finally bring us Civ 5 and Total War Rome 2.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 On Kickstarter, Funded In No Time

Unwritten Tales, one of the rares games in my library that I have actually finished.
Looking forward to the sequel.
I had a game breaking bug in game which made the game crash when I tried to get off the balloon, but eventually an update corrected this, and everything worked fine.
Unwritten Tales is thoroughly refreshing in this world where some games take themselves too seriously.

Pandora: First Contact Strategy Game Has Its Second Major Update

I can see that being a problem for a lot of people. In my case, I have c.500 games on Steam, c.50 on Desura, c.60 on GOG and all the other games on the Humble Store.
The danger with such large collections is that if you don't play with a game, you need to remember that you actually own it,and if my c.700 games had all been purchased in a gazillion stores, I would be quite at a loss. This is where the physical CDROM was good. But I don't own any CDROMs now apart from 2-3 games which I kept for mementos sake.
Someone needs to come up with a third party service that federates all the titles we own from these different platforms, into one easily accessible platform. I use GCStar to catalogue all my stuff, but it is getting quite difficult to keep up, wish it was automatic.
As for Pandora, it looks like it is never in the Sales at Slitherine, which is ahame as it is quite pricey, but to be honest, it seems like it is a game worth saving money for. I might make the jump.

Quoting: DeformalI`d like to see this game on Steam. That apparently will not happen as the publishing company is a direct competitor to Steam.

Linux Game Sales Statistics From Multiple Developers

Cheers for the Linux push.
As for early access games, some are better than others at making the Linux experience actually playable in Alpha stage. Usually, they focus more on the Windows versions.
Am planning on getting Rust and Continue?123456789 when I get more cash...
As for Paradox, a big big thank you, looking forward to seeing their numbers. Now if only they could only convince Taleworlds Entertainment to release Mount and Blade on Linux, that would be fab...I might even cry a little.

Cities In Motion 2 Shows Up In Steam For Linux

But in all seriousness, I see what you mean. You can always try Dwarf Fortress or Towns if you want to build a spectacular city.

Quoting: Quote from liamdaweWell when you see the latest Sim City fiasco, that feeling washes away.Quoting: Quote from pwburkhardtLooks quiet interesting, but id rather want to see a complete city building simulator (like Sim City) on Linux.Me too, I can't think of a really good city builder that we have :(

First Generation Steam Machines Revealed

Quoting: Quote from mannysurvival of the fittest.I think you nailed it pretty much. This year comparted to a console a Steam Machine does not seem to have an edge, however, in 2-3 years, the differences in graphics, and back catalogue of games will make the steamOS really attractive.
indeed we have enough variety and will be interesting to see what happens.
they won't be too competitive yet, then the ps4/xbone's hardware will start lagging behind each passing year and the Steam machines specs will look more attractive and the linux OS will have many more games.
anyway, if you think you missed anything, there's also good reports at the verge.
Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny RPG Now On Linux

I am on the fence with this game.
OK on the one hand all the reviews are terrible, yet most of them date from July or August or September, when the game was released in a broken state. Rumours have it that it was a conflict between the developing studio and the publisher. Publishers always win. Since then the developers have released several patches. The latest patch in December is apparently almost like a patch 2.0, bringing a lot of improvements.
I am going get this game, if only to support what could be a solid Rpg on linux, and I feel that the support is going to be ongoing for a while... There is a hardcore group of players supporting it, so there must be something about this game that keeps them loyal.
