Quoting: ShmerlWhat stops the developer from releasing for Linux, if the result is functional anyway?
They don't want to support it.

The Don't Starve: Hamlet expansion is now available with Linux support, not quite finished yet

Actually Steam is having a Klei Weekend sale right now too.

I did not have Don't Starve before, but I picked it up with all the DLCs including Hamlet and Don't Starve Together for $13(US). (You can also bundle it with Oxygen Not Included.)

The sale lasts for another 16 hours from when I am posting this.

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Yes but 3000 thousand of those games are shovel ware shit people that spam asset flips every week hell i could put up three linux games today using unity they would all be based on unit z but hey 3 new linux games. It is not the qty coming to linux we need the top tier games for every shovel knight or hollow knight there are 100 boring bland asset flips with zero bug testing or quality control. Maybe it's just me having a narrow view of games but no having 4000 thousand games doesnt mean anything if only 1/4 are worth playing.
That is not a linux problem. It is indicative of every gaming platform... and actually software in general, not just games.

I remember back when smart phones were brand new, Apple and Android bragged over who had more games in their respective software stores... who cares when 99.9% are crapware? Needless to say, no one cares how many titles there are.

If anything, this proves that linux is a viable platform. If there was no money to be made, even these asset flipping game authors wouldn't waste their time. It takes the promise of money being made for even the crapware to exist.

I'm shocked that they just didn't say that they would only be supporting "Steam Play" for linux users.

Road to your city, a city-builder that requires you to make people mad about Football
9 Nov 2018 at 1:25 pm UTC

Ohhhh... that football. I realize that I am in the minority on this site when I was expecting a different sport... (i.e. not soccer.)

We have different issues with our football here, but generally hooligans are not one of them.

GOG and Steam are both running a Polish celebration sale

Wow... A lot of "Anime Girls" in VR titles on the steam list.

Sadly, not for linux.

Dungeon League, a chaotic action-RPG has released with Linux support

I just noticed, it seems the price went up on release day...

According to IsThereAnyDeal [External Link] it appears that it was 9.99 before release and 14.99 after.

Still, I'll probably pick it up, but more likely wait for a sale now.

The Linux version actually arrived back in September, although we missed it since it's not really the type of game I admit that I follow.
There... I fixed it for you. :P

Book of Demons no longer getting a native Linux port, developer plans on 'supporting' Steam Play (updated)

The fact is that it does take additional work to support a different platform. While things like Unity make it easier it still requires more than just "pressing a button." However, programmers that put in the extra effort to learn the differences between the platforms also learn how to do it right in the first place to minimize problems in the future.

One other thing... the developers that are willing to put in the extra effort to learn the right way to do things will generally be the ones that are willing to try and actually spend time and effort trying to figure out what is wrong with their program when errors occur. They are the ones that will eventually fix their errors. Unlike the people who only know how to program by "Googling StackOverflow" which will generally throw up their arms and say "I can't fix it."

If someone wants to only support SteamPlay which implies no effort on their part that is fine for them; However, I choose to support developers who are willing to learn instead.

I'm not a huge fan of party games, but this looks like fun.

Of course it means also taking my steam controller out of the box... Most games I play are easier with just keyboard and mouse.
