Yeah, the last news item is a bit ago now. We've been planning a new release, but I've been kinda waiting on someone who started on doing a release video (the preview I've seen looked really nice), but they've been busy with real life.

Yeah. NWN, NWN2, KotOR, KotOR2, The Witcher, Jade Empire, and the first two Dragon Age games use the same engine base (with lots of stuff added between the games, of course). Sonic Chronicles is a bit...special, since it's half BioWare stuff, half Nintendo stuff. :)

Since I recently moved, I even went through unpacking recently as well... well, okay, I moved in mid-May, but I still had lots of boxes left to unpack, because I was missing furniture. I got some during some vacation two weeks ago, and unpacked the rest.

That also goes the other way round. While I'm not a game dev, I am somewhat game-dev adjacent. And I've been doing C and C++ on Linux for nearly 20 years now.

During that time, I've, from time to time, tried to set up Visual Studio on VMs, to make my FLOSS projects compile there and offer an easy way for contributors using Windows to jump in. And I've found it a profoundly dev-hostile environment.

On my day job (again not game dev), I've been put into a project that uses C# (with a whole set of stuff on top). I had less problems with acclimatizing to C# from my C++ knowledge than the absolute uncomfortableness of the Visual Studio glob.

Really, it's more about the fact that the concepts, assumptions and foci of Windows development vs. Linux development is completely different. They attack the problem from opposite angles and arrive at different solutions. So if you're accustomed to one, it's difficult to change to the other.

I wouldn't even necessarily say that one way is better than the other, although I do have my own opinions and existing workflows edged into my brain.

Yeah, some of that because Microsoft desperately wants to not follow standards, to leverage its monopoly to keep developers trapped in Windows-land. But some of that is a consequence of history. And some of that is just pure coincidence, two solutions being developed at the same time.

This does mean their future titles are less likely to be released for Linux
They even specifically mention that in the video (with different audio quality too, so it seems that was edited in later):

As correct as "Man dies in police-involved shooting", when a cop kills someone. The way something is phrased colors the contents, directs how you want the audience to feel about the news. It's not about correctness per se, but about which spin you're giving it.

By mirroring the phrasing of the press release, you're being, in my opinion, far too generous towards SEGA and far too positive towards bigger companies consolidating their power by eating smaller companies in general. I mean, we might disagree on that point here, in that you think these things are good, but I'm hoping you're at least aware of it.
