Unreal Engine 4 Now Has Linux Demo Games To Try

While the Mobile Temple demo worked fine for me on my desktop, the Blueprint one was quite low-FPS, the Effects Cave even worse, and the Elemental Demo brought my poor old system to a crawl.
It allocated 2GB of my 4GB RAM, then produced about one frame every minute or so. It even stopped X on my second monitor from updating the gkrellm and xclock running there, and dropping to the console (so I can kill -9 the bugger) took several minutes. I was just about to reset the machine, in fact, when the console appeared. All the while, the demo's sound ran fluently, though.

Yes, they work fine on my desktop with a GeForce GT 630. At leas the Mobile Temple does.
Very different visuals from what you usually see.
But yeah, the HDR takes some getting used to, and the motion blur makes me sick.
Also, it's a bit weird seeing the mirror effect vanish right at the edge of my FOV. Especially noticable when turning quickly and the mirror effect needs an extra frame to appear.

-1 for Disqus. It's a horrible piece of carp that's only topped by IntenseDebate and (*gag*) Discourse.

Well, that Mobile Temple Demo just says "Aborted" on my laptop.
To be fair, it has only a GM965 card, with OpenGL 2.1.
Gonna see what my desktop says later this evening.

Add me to the list of people who didn't think that was possible.
Also, add me to the list of people who think that shouldn't be possible. By law.

GOL Birthday Livestream At 4 PM UTC on Twitch.tv

I heard that German viewers were not able to watch the stream, because YouTube's livestreaming is not available in Germany for some reasonThe reason is that in Germany, you have to get a broadcast license if you can reach more than 500 people. This law was meant to stop pirate TV and radion stations, but YouTube live streaming was also deemed to be broadcasting.
chatting will be done on the Twitch channel using Twitch's chat. We don't want to bother the IRC peopleJust in case people don't know: You can connect to Twitch chat via IRC using your favourite IRC client. Way more comfortable IMHO.

Just a heads up: There's been some kerfuffle about the devs potentially taking heavy inspiration from MonsterUp Adventures [External Link], without giving proper attribution / "stealing artwork".
(I personally wouldn't go so far as to use the word "stealing", since they didn't copy & paste the sprites themselves, but YMMV.)

You should check out their earlier albums as well; I can recommend them. Their later albums aren't that..crunchy in my opinion, but YMMV. They changed their name to just "Slough Feg" (dropping the "The Lord Weird" ) after Traveller too.
The two tag clouds at the right kinda say most of it. A lot of sludge/doom/stoner/psychedelic, but also (atmospheric) black and folk/viking/medieval, with a smattering of heavy/power-ish and progressive. Occassionally I also listen to chiptunes, or go back to the classic rock roots of metal, or throw in some weird jazz (doomish/noirish and/or minimalistic) or other experimental stuff.
And my listening history shows that I don't do shuffle. I prefer to listen to the whole catalog of an artist sequentially. What I listen to depends on my mood, and shuffle doesn't help there. :)

Quoting: scaine[Edit: just hit track 5 - this is... excellent! Real earthy, old school metal. Superb!]Yes, 5 and 6 are my favourite. But really, the whole album is awesome. Since it's a concept album, there's some reprises of earlier themes in the songs at the end as well; I love that.
