IndieGameStand blog post on Steam key reselling, plus my thoughts

Considering how little I have spent on games from legitimate stores, I have never understood the desire to move to more shady resellers. Digital distribution makes things cheap already, especially when it comes to the kinds of games you would find on IGS.

Kind of goes with what I said in a thread earlier about itch.io though - I am not comfortable with handing out my financial information to too many different groups. If they are scamming them, they could scam you, which is part of the reason why I am conservative about using new storefronts.

Humble Indie Bundle 16 launches, great selection with Sunless Sea now officially on Linux

So I go to check on this weeks new games only to find that they have already nudged Humble Indie Bundle 16 off the main page in favour of a Steam locked and for the most part Windows only Star Wars Bundle. You could show the brand that got you going in the first place at least a little respect Humble. Not impressed at all with this. :><:

I already own two of the games included, and the others do not pique my interest too much personally, so I will probably wait until next week before making a decision.

Shadwen, the brand new stealth game from Frozenbyte looks like it will support Linux

I am glad they are trying new things again. Trine 3 was somewhat indicative of what happens when you spend too much time retreading old ground.

Multiplayer indie action game 'Super Snow Fight' may get a Linux version if there is enough demand

Quoting: HoriIt's pretty cheap so of course I would, to support the dev at least
Not meant as a reflection on you, just warning people that developers need accurate information. Just telling someone you will support their game on Linux is not the same as doing so.

Quoting: HoriOkay folks, everyone +1 !!! :D
If you do not plan to actually buy it though that would seem a little disingenuous.

New Linux & SteamOS gamer survey for February

Did not have my display resolution of 1400x1050, but I have only been using it since I got my new monitor a few weeks back, and I fully admit that it is kind of weird, so I really do not consider it too be much of an issue.

The Humble Store is having a winter sale, go grab cheap games

Just purchased Spirits of Xanadu, although it had the same confusing text:

DRM Free download works just fine though.

Grim Fandango Remastered lists a DRM free download from Humble under Platforms, but also says the following right above the Summary text:
Grim Fandango Remastered is provided via Steam Key. For key redemption, a free Steam account is required to play.

So which am I supposed to believe here? Can anybody confirm?

Quoting: Shaolu
Quoting: ripperSince when is Unreal Tournament an open source game?
The confusion might come in because technically the source is available for the engine, but yeah it's definitely not Freely licensed.
Actually there is an argument to describe Unreal Tournament as an Open Source game, since it uses an Open Source development model. It is certainly not Free Software though, because as you say, it is not freely licensed, which also conflicts with the generally understood meaning of the term Open Source, but not the development model.

Which is why both terms are terribly muddled. Free Software has the gratis connotation in English, while Open Source describes a development model that not all Free Software has to adhere to, as it is perfectly possible to develop a Free Software program in a closed fashion as long as the end result is freely licensed. Or as we see in this case, the opposite is also true.

Semantics are fun. Game of the year fun?
