GOG Have Supported Linux For Just Over A Year, Announce New Linux Installer System
13 Aug 2015 at 6:45 am UTC

I wish they would keep the tarballs around, they are easier to work with than an installer and I'm sure I'll need to lookup how to extract it manually every single time. Doing patches is not a problem either and it certainly doesn't require an installer. I get that it's more user friendly for some, but for me it's a step backwards.

War For The Overworld Strategy Game Thoughts & Small Interview

I would buy if it were on GOG, though it would probably have to come down in price a little as well. I'm so far behind playing the games I already have and $30 is too much for an impulse buy.

Don't Starve Together Now Available To All Who Own Don't Starve

Based on their forum, this is only for the Steam version. When I bought Reign of Giants it didn't work at all for months after release, due to know bugs that they couldn't bother to fix. Klei's treatment of non steam platforms is pretty terrible, and the main reason I've skipped Invisible, Inc so far.

Time To Give Up On A Linux Version Of The Racer Gas Guzzlers Extreme
21 May 2015 at 5:18 pm UTC

Not surprised, take a look at the Desura comments for the non-extreme version to see how they treat their customers. Everything in the extreme version was promised as an update coming in the next month or so, but then the developer disappeared for a year only to reappear with the extreme edition, which obviously was not a free update. Ever since the game came out on Stream, the original customer have been forgotten.

Too bad, the game was rather fun.

City Builder Game Cities: Skylines Now Has A Release Date

So you can buy it from Steam, or you can buy it on Steam direct from the publisher, but either way you are getting Steam. Wish paradox would consider selling Steam free versions of its games.

The Linux Port Of Age Of Wonders III Is Progressing, A Bit Too Explosive Right Now

This game is very controversial on GOG, as it another game there which many consider to have DRM. You must use their matchmaking service (requires account creation and whatnot) even for a LAN game. I am passing on this one even though I loved shadow magic.

Quoting: scaineJust not sure how you can say that twice in the same thread? GoG is pretty clear that this game is DRM free -

I said it twice because GOG saying it is DRM free does not make it so. They are essentially lying about this game being DRM free and I don't want people to be tricked into buying this. This isn't the only game like this on GOG, I know for instance that Age of Wonders III also has DRM restricting multiplayer.

Of course there is no hard definition of what DRM is, and based on the rest of your comment I assume we have a different idea about what DRM is. I consider this to be DRM because you need to ask for 3rd party authorization before you can use the software fully.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceIf GOG gets the Linux version I'd shell out the money for a DRM free copy.
There is no DRM free version, even the GOG version includes DRM.

Two Worlds II Confirmed For A Linux Release This Month

Quoting: scaineInteresting - the GoG version of this does not have DRM as someone previously claimed, but a later hotfix released by the publisher apparently puts DRM back on your non-DRM GoG version! What a mess.
The DRM aspect of the GOG version is in the LAN multiplayer. You can only play on Reality Pump's server, and you must register with them in order to play. The registration is tied to your cdkey, and they ask for a lot of information such as phone number, email, and address. It is true that without the patch the multiplayer does not work at all, so in that sense it could be considered DRM free. If I remember correctly, once you apply the patch you are required to register in order to play even the single player mode.

So the unpatched game on GOG is without DRM only because you don't have access to all aspects of the game. You will notice the game is being sold as having coop play, which requires the patch, which requires registration.
