Here's the winners of the 2022 Steam Awards

Quoting: FifteenthPenIt really does seem like most voters ignored the categories, or have very... interesting ideas about what they meant.
To be fair, within each category, Steam already had selected a few to vote for. In most cases, I'm pretty sure a lot of people voted for the few titles they knew, or had seen in other platforms, without knowing all the options.
For the initial voting, for the most categories requirement was just that game had been released in 2022. So unless Valve cheated, all nominees were chosen by Steam users.

For the final round to be completely fair though, people should actually play the nominees. Even with sales prices, buying the all games gets quite costly, especially as there are so many AAA games. Alternative would be to watch some lets plays, though that's not exactly same as actually playing the game.

So in the end, this is more of an way to increase sales (though as side effect few games might get extra attention that they would otherwise get). It seems to work as few winter sales in a row have been these awards events.

As for Stray, I agree that its strength is not innovative gameplay, so I voted for Dome Keeper. Though Neon White might have deserved the vote even more as it's quite unique genre mashup, but I opted voting for Linux native title.

Quoting: PhiladelphusI haven't looked through all of them, but of the ones I did I note the average gamer here is pretty far above the norm in terms of achievements achieved this past year! (Though Valve don't provide a standard deviation so I can't put it terms of N-sigma outliers.)
I was curious and glanced through all so far. I'm the outliest outlier of them all with 705 achievements. Then with the bit higher numbers 400 something is relatively common in the over 100 category. But still most common is somewhere close to 100, but not quite.

As for the higher than average amount achievements, also amount of games played is higher than the average. Quite often easiest achievements are closer to beginning of the game, so trying out larger amount of games could cause achievement numbers to rise.

As for larger number of different games, this site is called Gaming on Linux

"This account's replay is not shared".

Seems like you forgot to switch your link to public. It's private by default.
Ah, there's at least somebody else that is curious enough to look through them all

I don't have controller vs keyboard and mouse section. I wonder if it's because Steam Input mostly doesn't work for me, so I have disabled it in every game that I play or have tried to play with a controller.

Short summary:Started with Spiritfarer, continued with Control, moved onto Valheim, switched to Rings of Saturn and finished the year with Stone Story RPG. Lot of other games on the side as well. Valheim and Rings of Saturn I should revisit at some point as both of them have been updated since I last played them.

Demos might have caused spike in new games, though there were few even despite of that. Total 18 that I have played have been released this year.

Demo was nice back when it was available. And it looks like gameplay has gotten even more varied.

I have this also somewhere buried in my wishlist.

Retro fuelled FPS 'Selaco' has easily one of the best demos I've ever played

Quoting: 1xokCall me crazy. But it has a touch of Alien Isolation in it.
I was thinking more of System Shock. There's bit of immersive sim vibe which does somewhat apply to Alien isolation too. There's bit more in there than just a simple keyhunt.

PS: for me Vulkan and Mesa 22.3.0 caused Xorg crashes. 22.2.3 seem to be fine.

The Jingle Jam 2022 Games Collection is live and another awesome deal

Just in case somebody wondered what kind of charities money goes to (like I did), the list can be found from the Jingle Jam site [External Link]

As far as the games go, my special mention is Rings of Saturn [External Link]. Mining asteroids is just so fun and it doesn't hurt that there's little bit of world building on top of that.

I used to pick something bit random or something I think is somewhat popular. Now their data will hopefully be bit more valid

Mixing factory management, Tower Defense and RTS - Mindustry 7.0 is out now
15 Nov 2022 at 4:22 pm UTC

I have played quite lot of Mindustry. This update might be good excuse to play it through again, but there's always so much else to play. At least I keep track of games with big updates in Steam.
