Quoting: BielFPsDo we have to do something to use ACO by default? I'm using Mesa 20 but I don't know if ACO is activatedBy default radv uses llvm but you can activate ACO backend by setting RADV_PERFTEST=aco env variable. If you want to globally set ACO as default backend, then you should export this variable in .bash_profile. Still, remember that ACO is still experimental so I wouldn't suggest to enable it globally.

ACO is god send. It completely removes stuttering on SteamPlay games with heavy shader usage (e.g. GTA V). So nice to have it mainlined with Mesa now :D

To be honest, I don't get very exited as the primary topic for the sessions is listed as 'Supercomputing'. Lets see what the announce but I don't have big expectations.

Quoting: tuubiI almost fell off my chair laughing when I checked the update and saw the pricing last night. Sad thing is, people will definitely waste their money on these overpriced cosmetics. Although I'm sure they'd spend even more if the credits weren't so ridiculously overpriced. Personally I don't really care. I've never spent a penny on the game since I bought it, and I've had more than 500 hours of fun playing it (badly) anyway. They also removed decriptors (aka free keys). I really don't understand why people prefer to buy a cosmetics item for the price of a full new game. It definitely doesn't work with me :/
It's already possible to play Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Linux with Steam Play

Quoting: rkfgI think the biggest issue with EAC is how intrusive it is. It clearly includes a kernel-level driver (I found issues describing BSoDs caused by EasyAntiCheat.sys) and Wine, being a userspace set of libraries, simply can't emulate kernel APIs because it would require root access and a kernel module. So Epic/Valve will either develop such a module and provide a way to build/load it from Steam (more likely) or drop the low-level part of anticheat which would make Linux a more preferable platform for cheaters (much less likely). Or maybe they'll find a middleground and do whatever's possible from userspace but with elevated privileges (access to /dev/mem, /dev/kmem and such). Are you a 100% of all you mention? I know for a fact that EAC has a Linux client version and it doesn't require root privileges in order to run. Also, if they install a driver on Windows I would expect that Windows users have to give privileges to Steam installer.
TBH, I don't like any of these possibilities because this anticheat gets full access to your memory, processes and devices and can potentially steal passwords, keys and whatnot.

Quoting: EhvisThe blog post is quite interesting. They're basically saying that Vulkan is for AMD support because AMD OpenGL drivers are terrible. For NVIDIA OpenGL is the way to go because it matches better with how it is used by games. It's also fun to see that one of the workaround for AMD users was to use Linux instead of Windows :woot:

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI guess there must be a reason for that naming scheme, like some kind of structural legacy from older versions of Windows. .Indeed, they say that it's for legacy purposes. IMO is because they are lazy and didn't want to fix their PE loader.
Some thoughts on Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power

Quoting: Avehicle7887Trine 3 with Mesa brings back dark memories. The OpenGL core profile wasn't the only issue it had, the game also required the fp64 feature (Floating Point 64) which at the time Intel HD didn't have in Mesa (AMD was ok'ish). Ironically running the game in Wine on the same system worked perfectly (performance aside). Are you sure that fp64 is mandatory for this game? The reason why Hamish GPU doesn't report a core profile up to OGL 4.5 is due to the lack of fp64. But as he mentioned, overriding the version did the trick.
Thankfully the native version works fine now in Intel HD so those dark days are gone.
