Quoting: BielFPsHow can I set this up with wine games (not using dxvk)?
Like any environment variable. Export it in your scripts that launch your games for example.

Fore details on usage, see:

GALLIUM_HUD=help glxgears

VK_INSTANCE_LAYERS=VK_LAYER_MESA_overlay VK_LAYER_MESA_OVERLAY_CONFIG=help vkcube

Search for some examples on-line too.
Beware that vulkan-overlay-layer is not built by default on Mesa (at least with Meson config). Not sure if Arch/Manjaro requires an special package (or they build their packages with overlay support).

Quoting: Glog78Hi Liam,

i did download both drivers and did a small md5sum ->

md5sum ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-418.52.18_*
5480d71d44b4ea6c2444e254d93fc051 ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-418.52.18_opengl.run
5480d71d44b4ea6c2444e254d93fc051 ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-418.52.18_vk.run

since the md5sum is equal i would say this are both the same driver (opengl & vk).
They could well be. Another way to check would be to use the Vulkan Hardware Capability Viewer [External Link] on the OpenGL driver and see if the new Vulkan extensions show up, if they don't it's not the same. Would be odd if they were exactly the same, since they created an entirely separate page and download for them.
But the download page is the same for OpenGL and Vulkan, isn't it? I think they have one package with both libraries.

By they way, getting a md5 synonym is highly unlikely but you can use SHA1 to be 100% sure :P.

Quoting: EhvisSo if I understand this correctly, Epic paid 30M to get the largest prize pool. Then Valve earned 90M to beat them again?
120M in that case.
No, 30M is for the prize pool.
Ups, got you wrong (interpreted as "raised", my bad)

Ubisoft and Epic Games are now supporting Blender development

Quoting: jarhead_hBlender is good enough now that is starting to be used in television. It won't be long and it will be the primary software for lower budget animated features, especially with GreasePencil.
Just to clarify, I didn't intend to say that Blender is just for amateurs. I know for sure that Blender is well prepared for professionals environments (there are lots of Blender's pro-level productions examples) but my low to nill expertise on this three programs doesn't allow me to say if Autodesk solutions brings any extra value that Blender doesn't.

Ubisoft and Unity are almost the same... for my brain :P

Not really, but it seems like it does have quite a few disadvantages.
Like the driver issue? Check it out here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-amdgpu-unified-navi-linux [External Link]

I mentioned you way too many advantages for gaming on Linux with the FOSS graphic driver. Think whatever you want.

Quoting: x_wingand the hardware that sells AMD has an excellent performance compared to Nvidia (if not better).
And that's a lie according to the benchmarks. The 5700xt is a good card but the rest from amd are really weak competitors.
Are you sure? https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=radeon-5700-linuxgl&num=6 [External Link]

Quoting: x_wingWe are talking about the quality of a product in our OS, and AMD exceeds by far to Nvidia products in almost every tier (from my point of view).
Well, your point of view is biased so that's your problem.
Is a bias to use software quality in the equation of an overall quality? I think not... but well, that's what I think.

Funny, that with AMD it's almost always the first issue.
And you call me "biased" <3

Quoting: Alm888I wonder, what Autodesk® had done to piss these guys off so much that they openly started undermining its dominance by supporting the direct competitor?

Usually, Big Bucks Companies stick to each other.
The only problem with Maya and 3DSMAX is their price. For indies/hobbyist Blender is the way to go and I think that Unity and Epic wants to reduce newcomers costs.

Interested in Google's Stadia game streaming service? We have a few more details now

Quoting: DuncI can't put it any better than Shamus Young at the Escapist [External Link]:
Five years of Stadia will set you back $700, at bare minimum. (That’s the cost of the Founder’s Edition — which comes with three free months of premium access — and the monthly fee over the next 57 months.)

Who is this service for? It’s supposedly for people who want to play AAA games but don’t have access to AAA hardware. It’s for people who are into hardcore games but don’t mind an unavoidable baseline of input lag. It’s for people who can’t afford a $400 console but can afford to buy games at full price and pay an additional $120 every single year. It’s for people who have lots of devices who somehow don’t own any dedicated gaming hardware. (...)

Stadia is for casual gamers who are into hardcore titles and poor people with lots of disposable income. This is a service for nobody, and it makes no sense.
That argument is valid based on people that wants to play in 4k (you are only forced to pay if and only if you want that service). So, I can think in a lot of poor people that will find this service useful, not to mention that there are several online games that even having a local copy on your disk will have the same future as any Stadia game once the publisher decides to shutdown all the running servers.

Stadia doesn't seems to be a replacement of every game we know, but it's probably the future for all the games that heavily depends on massive multiplayer online.

Quoting: chancho_zombieBut still that doesn't change my overall negative opinion on the soviets, on latin america they brought us the guerrilla, and funded the Cubans, and the Cuban militias trained local guerrillas like the ones we had here (montoneros), so I have a very negative opinion on the soviets.
(Sorry if I'm being off-topic)
In the same way USA, sponsored military coups. And it is't a binary problem (i.e. Russia vs USA), Africa is a showcase of how first world countries do nasty things just for the "profit"

Every one has a dark side...
