Hello Games appear to be keeping an eye on Steam Play with No Man's Sky, temp fix needed for NVIDIA

Liam, you probably want to point out that in order to compile you need to install build essential (or the similar meta package for non debian distros)

Google reveal more games with the latest Stadia Connect, including Cyberpunk 2077

Quoting: ShmerlI don't think Stadia requires using Visual Studio (would be stupid if it does). They mention it to lure Windows only developers probably.
Clearly is just marketing. You can code for any OS/programming language in pretty much any text editor. In fact, I think that many games were coded using notepad.

Quoting: GuestThey mention visual studio in their software tools. I don't know how to take this. I am still not sure these games will run natively on Debian or trough a proton-like tool. And even if they do, it wouldn't mean they would be released to Linux desktop players for fears of high support costs for little revenue.
Visual Studio Code has Linux support. Never used it and probably, I never will 'cause vim is all you need!

Facepunch adjust their Linux plans for Rust, refunds being offered as it won't continue at all

On top of that, Newman suggested refunding it even if you think you have your monies worth, so you can "use that money to buy a game from a developer that supports Linux well - this is the best thing you can do to help your community".
This is probably the first time I agree with Newman. Hope people don't abuse of this option, but we all know that this will happen unfortunately (I want to think that refunds will only be granted if the game was bought from steam platform)

KDE has an unpatched security issue that's been made public
7 Aug 2019 at 12:44 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: scaineAs a security consultant myself, I can't believe it's 2019 and this guy didn't go through responsible disclosure. He'll get his 15 minutes of fame alright, but at the expense of his credibility for any future security work. I wouldn't touch this guy with a barge-pole, knowing that this is the attitude with which they approach their work.
Well, after CTS Labs vs AMD fiasco these behaviors doesn't surprise me anymore.

Not sure what happened that Liam had to suppress comments but this is just a security threat that any application can have (remember Shellshock). I hope that KDE is able to release a security patch ASAP in order to boycott the childish behavior of this guy.

NVIDIA releases the GeForce RTX 2060 and 2070 "SUPER" GPUs, along with a new Linux driver
5 Aug 2019 at 5:18 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestThat's clearly not an advantage - you have a harder time getting the latest drivers. Also, stop with this "proper" way nonsense - the linux kernel is monolithic but it doesn't mean that it won't work without integrated drivers - quite the opposite, gpu drivers are better when they're separated because you can access even the beta drivers without compiling your own kernel. And a reminder:

Nvidia: releases the driver with the hardware on the same day, even for linux.
AMD: "We are targeting a launch day driver [for Linux] but Windows obviously takes priority"(https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2019/07/02/will-amd-radeon-rx-5700xt-graphics-cards-support-linux-gaming/#4e6d19043af9)
Help me reading the date of this release: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-amdgpu-unified-navi-linux [External Link]

Quoting: GuestMore smugness from an AMD user - what a surprise! I know, I know - "don't ever question the holy mesa driver!"
I decided that the quality of my answers will be the same as yours (funny enough, this seems to trigger you).

You talk about quality without even giving any reason to support the "this is shit" statement you bring. You don't even seems to understand the difference between monolithic a modular kernel. IMHO there is no point to debate with someone that is only a big bag of biases.

Quoting: GuestYou didn't mention any advantage.
I mentioned gallium 9, didn't I? I also said that the way AMD release and supports their drivers is the proper way to do it in our system. You know "... you're not reading my posts (properly)...".

Quoting: x_wingAre you sure? https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=radeon-5700-linuxgl&num=6 [External Link]
Yes, I'm sure. The 5700xt card is impressive but the rest aren't.
So, the numbers of the 5700 are not impressive? Radeon VII aren't too? I showed you some benchs on Linux, not sure what else I can do...

Quoting: GuestWell, if you're interested in software quality then why even bother with mesa?
Solid answer. Well done! To answer this solid argument I'll quote myself:

Valve's new "ACO" Mesa shader compiler for AMD GPUs now has vertex shader support
1 Aug 2019 at 2:54 pm UTC

Quoting: massatt212ACO doesn't seem to work on Ubuntu Based OS still stutter a lot (for me)
Just installed Manjaro and make a PKG and waw I mean WAW its really smooth

No problems at all for me.

Worth mention: I compiled them. Maybe is a problem with the ppa version?

Quoting: X6205Not sure if i understand this.. It surely looks great, but if shaders are compiled only on first run and Steam client has even his own shader cache for distributing shaders, why they are putting man-hours into this? Does it improve also in-game performace after all shaders are compiled?
he tried it with GTA5

dont expect a lot, but around 5fps more is not bad

i use valves ppa since it was released and had no troubles
Unfortunately the methodology on the video is wrong, it should be comparing with 19.2-ACO with new compiler enable and disabled (i.e. RADV_PERFTEST=llvm). Not doing that may show performance improvements that are related with performance gains at gallium driver on 19.2.
