First off, happy independence day for all our Poland folks!
Definitely there are some games that I will grab, but I'm still unsure to get The Witcher 3. I think I'll wait for the Winter sale for this one.

Unreal Engine 4.21 is out, now defaults to the Vulkan API on Linux

From my point of view, the problem to get the port is related with the business model that this game has. We, the Linux market, are a tiny market, meanwhile Fortnite is a game with an exponential revenue growth and with a huge kids players base. So, the issue is not about technical difficulties, but that the revenue speedup that a Linux version could generate is minimum compared with speedup that they will get if they use those resources in order to create a new hat or skin and sell it for hundreds of V-Bucks.

Quoting: GuestI know. I didnt denied it. He just stated that its probably because Epic doesnt want to pay for the Linux Support of it. I for myself think its because Vulkan is still in an "Early" Stage in Unreal Engine if we look at the Support. What I said is that it doesn't sounds like there is a problem between their engine and Vulkan, I just said that they are winning tons of money by having a huge player base and using an older API allows them to get to more people as it has been supported for several years, bringing better legacy support (for instance, a GTX 5XX & AMD HD6XXX or older cards doesn't have Vulkan support, but will probably be able to run Fortnite). And about Battleye, I just mentioned that they probably don't want to pay them to get the Linux client (Battleye definitely will want an extra), in the sense that it's an extra cost they think that won't get payback.

Quoting: GuestI dont follow the Unreal Engine Development really much. But it looks like they still dont treat Vulkan like a First Class Citizen. Maybe i'm wrong. But as long as they dont do it. I dont see for example Fortnite coming to Linux in a native way.I doubt that they treath as second class citizen Vulkan (if so, we must say the same for Dx12). If Fortnite is using Dx11 it's just because they want to reach as much public they can (it's a freemium software, so it makes sense). If they don't make the release for Linux it's probably related with Battleye and that they don't want to pay for the Linux support (AFAIK, Battleye has a Linux client).

I remember trying to make work this game and I was able to run it.
Here are my game launch options:
I had to add LD_LIBRARY_PATH due to some missing library. As far I can see, I have two symlinks:
Worth mention: Ubuntu 18.04 with Mesa 18.2.2

Steam Play thoughts: A Valve game streaming service

I definitely believe that this is the future of gaming... But we are still 10 years away from it.
The biggest problem for a gaming cloud service is that it requires a very low latency with a good bandwidth (you are almost don't allowed to have any buffering, which means that video streaming will get quite heavy). So, with the current state of networks and amount servers farm, we still need to work a lot to achieve this requirements (at least in the 95% of the countries in the world).
But yeah, eventually in will become a reality and Linux will be running these gaming server.
One side note: for complex competitive games (pubg, csgo, etc.) moving all the game to the cloud will simplify a lot (if not completely remove them) the anti cheat software. I think that this feature would be quite seductive for such games.

No Brakes Games have discontinued Linux support for Human: Fall Flat

Of course, we know that in the reality this is far to be the case...
From a developer perspective, I can say that the problem origin may be that all devs works in one platform and code only on that platform. So, they do all their work there and then try to fix for the other ones (this is a real scenario, took from my experience on multi platform projects). Weird thing is that Linux is by far the easiest and best platform to code...

Quoting: MblackwellI wonder what the heck people are doing. Once things can compile for a target platform that should always be the case. Once support is solid there should be no difference from then on unless there are external factors like Unity breaking something. In a ideal world: If you do a proper QA, each new feature you add to your game requires a full set of human being tests in order to achieve the quality you require. This said, removing the official support to one of the platform reduce testing time by 1/3.

I've got the game... this is quite annoying as was something that I bought to support about a year ago. Weird thing is that I don't recall that they made any big update recently (out of the multiplayer). Probably they have something in the oven that won't get into Linux :/
The Steam Beta Client has some updates to the runtime for games that needs testing

As advice, remember to check every command you use with this: https://explainshell.com/ [External Link]
About steam runtime, I though that steam was using system libraries by default. Maybe the problems happens with games (or proton) preferring steam runtimes libs?

Quoting: FireBurnAny idea what they've changed? New packages? Updated packages?I remember a guy that run this command but replaced the steam directory with the root directory (and with sudo!)
I have to run this command so I use the native packages on my machine to prevent segfaults
find ~/.steam/root/ \( -name "libgcc_s.so*" -o -name "libstdc++.so*" -o -name "libxcb*.so*" -o -name "libvulkan.so*" \) -print -delete

Quoting: ArdjeI think he should send it. Even if devs doesn't care, it makes them see that there are Linux gamer out there.Quoting: StraToNI am trying to get Offworld Trading Company working on my setup (laptop) using Proton since its beta release, but I keep getting the game crashing immediately after clicking the Play button in the launcher, outputting crash logs and asking me to send them to the developers. I haven't done it, since this game is not officially supported, so I suppose I won't get any answer... but would I?You should not bother the original developers.
But what you do have to do is report it on the proton issue tracker. Check if the game already has a report, and if not create a new issue. All problems with a game go into a single issue.
There might be just that tiny change on your system that makes it crash on yours and work on others.
Ignore any downvotes of your issues, because there are hateful people everywhere, even if they use linux.

If you still want to make work the .deb version you installed, just add this to the init script (/usr/bin/steam): export LD_PRELOAD='/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6'
But there is a precondition for this "workaround": you should have installed 32 bits version of libstdc++ (you may have it if you install 32 bits libs for Nvidia drivers, so not big deal).
Anyway, just go for the option of installing steam using Ubuntu repos. It will be way more simple in the end...

Quoting: Power-Metal-GamesYes, is broken for Nvidia users as you can see here: (https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/steam -- the "package not available" tag is the problem :/ ). The good news is that you can force install the package and everything should go fine (apt-get -f steam). But remember to remove the version you installed with .deb file before!Quoting: EikeThere is something that definitely prevents it from installing. But anyway, big thanks to all of you trying to help. This a great community. I almost regret that I mentioned that problem. :DQuoting: Power-Metal-GamesIt's Ubuntu 18.04. I assure you that I tried every possible thing I found on the internet and NOTHING worked. Not a big thing because I work every day so it's better not to play at all. :D I will just wait a little and reinstall the OS.Wasn't there a bug and in the Ubuntu 18.04 Steam package? (Not the first time I got the impression installing Steam on Debian is easier than on Ubuntu...)
