elementary OS 6 set for a big overhaul, adding system-wide Flatpak support

I used elementary Loki for about a year in 2015 on an Asus "ROG" gaming laptop (UX501?) - and it worked quite well, using prime to switch between discrete (NVidia 970) and intel GPU... like it so much I chipped in...
But over the intervening years, I just found it easier to use Ubuntu with default gnome - and tweak somethings to make feel it like elementary / pantheon...
I still want to love elementary - but each time I try it again, I just find the locked down nature of some things too limiting...
One good thing that may come from this is getting plank working on wayland!!!

Play more classics including one from 1976 with a new ScummVM release

I recently bought Blade Runner from Gog, thinking it was something "recent" (it wasn't 'recent'), anyway I downloaded the Linux version anyway, and it wouldn't run - then I figured out - "it's just a ScummvM game", so I can probably figure how to run it in ScummVM, but haven't gotten around to that yet...
Played Monkey Island 1 via ScummVM on my NTC PocketChip (single core ARM 512 RAM) a couple years back and that ran perfectly...

This game, and Serious Sam III, were what persuaded me finally, to stop dual booting, for good, forever...
What have you been playing recently? We've been tinkering with a Raspberry Pi 4

I'm on my 2nd RPi4B now - saw the 8 GB model release, and couldn't resist...
However - I insist on running 64 bit on these, I've got 4 GB model running elementary 5.1 64 bit (which I'll probably end up switching to a headless server), and an 8 GB model running XFCE 64 bit - trouble is the Steam Link app for arm is only armhf, there's no arm64/aarch64 (I'm also running arm64 Raspbian on my RPi3B headless [pi-hole and openVPN server])
In fact I broke my original 8 GB XFCE install trying to get Steam Link armhf to run on aarch64 (did a series of "sudo apt install [thing]:armhf" to get all the dependancies that steamlink.deb required to install - and then it proceeded to replace ALL of my aarch64/arm64 binaries and libraries with armhf versions)...
No rush - I'll wait and see if a 64 bit release of Steam Link for Raspbian gets released, eventually, I waited 9 months for an "official" 64 bit Raspbian, I can wait... But it wouldn't be that hard surely, there's already a plethora of Single Board Computers out there running 64 bit Linux... Note - 64 bit Raspbian (now rebranded as RaspiOS I believe?) does let you "sudo apt install steamlink", but it doesn't work (and looks like it's trying to trash your system by replacing arm64 staff with armhf)...
Planning on making the 8 GB RPi4 model my portable workstation when Covid 19 isolation is over (getting a NextDock 2)...

Installed libopencl :
ocl-icd-libopencl1
There's a bunch of libcuda1 packages, but they all seem to be for NVidia drivers pre 390 - e.g. libcuda1-384, libcuda1-331...
Will libcuda1-384 work with 390?
Trying it anyway...
Also - it's a PITA (i.e. never got it to work), despite allowing 0/0 and/or 0.0.0.0/0 in "allow" and "web-allow"... Ended up just running firefox over X, to view http://localhost:7396/ [External Link] - they don't make it easy, do they?
Anyway - I'm running it on three nodes, but only two have GPU's - and all going to the credit of team : 245680
Note - if you apply for a "key" expect to wait 24 hours for it to arrive in your inbox...
---
Update - rebooted one machine after installing libcuda1-384, after restarting FAHClient service didn't make any difference, and it's still not using GPU (according to http://localhost:7396/) [External Link]. It's running a Quadro 2000, not the best / fastest... but it should be working with this...
---
Update 2 - also found suggestion to install ocl-icd-opencl-dev, and rebooted (probably shouldn't need to but why not?) -and still seeing no GPU usage, but : no longer got OpenCL errors and shows GPU and CUDA available... so maybe won't use CUDA / GPU until it loads another data set to fold?
Summary (on my Ubuntu 18.04.4) :

Quoting: ajgpWell Im trying but I keep getting an OPenCL error in the log and my GPU is doing sod all work. CPU is pumping along fine!Same here... but which CUDA package? I'm running it on two NVidia GPU hosts, but it's not using any GPU... I'm running proprietary 390 series drivers...
Have the correct OPenCL packages as well; any ideas?
EDIT:Works after installing CUDA package and then rebooting!

I love DRM free games!
Just built my 3rd (or 4th? I lost count somewhere) 18.04 LTS machine today!
My main gaming rig lost its HDD yesterday - so I thought : blow it - I'll just install 18.04 LTS (or beta 2) on a new HDD... tried Xubuntu - few bugs - then ANOTHER HDD failed!
So I busted out a 10K RPM 1 TB HDD and installed 18.04 LTS on it... forgetting that it was previously a ZFS member of a RAID pool!
Reformat - re-install - now I've finally got my Bionic Beaver LTS gaming desktop going finally...
nvidia 390 > check
steam > check
dropbox > check
cooking with gas!

Doom (2016) could have been on Linux, id Software made a Linux version sound easy to do

So sad... ID Software originally developed on NEXT machines, running "UNIX"... In 1996 I was supporting a customer with a few SGI MIPs UNIX (IRIX) workstations - and they all had DOOM on them!
I think Quake 4 was the last product they released with a Linux version... The Linux gaming market has grown exponentially since then, if the build for our platform of choice is so easy, then surely its a marketing decision...
I blame Bethesda! There was some Linux rumours and code floating around for Rage way back when, but that never got released. It's a marketing decision, not engineering... I say a big F--K YOU to Bethesda!
