Remember to support the projects you use and appreciate

Very important topic, yes.
I put aside a few hundred bucks every year to donate to various projects at the end of the year, but i must admit though that those mostly go to bigger projects like KDE and the small 'auxiliary' projects often get overlooked. If i discover a neat small project and start to use it, i sometimes donate a few bucks directly, but of course that often gets overlooked if the project 'just works' and i don't think about it anymore ^^

Decky Loader makes Steam Deck plugins even EASIER with new installer

Neat - the 'old' way was even easier via ssh though...not even a need to go into desktop mode :D

I really wished we had those plugins for the desktop steam client to - i miss protondb and HLTB when i browse there ^^

ASUS stick an OLED display into a controller, Dell want to reinvent it

Quoting: elmapulthis is like the dreamcast controller that use magnets to "work forever without drift" ?
It really seems that dreamcast used hall effect - makes it even more absurd that it isn't the standard since then ^^
Quoting: elmapuli wonder if you can use the magnets to make the stick harder or softer to move without wearing it out, it would be a cool haptic feedback feature.
I don't think so, the magnets are permanent magnets that produce a magnetic field whose change the hall sensor picks up.

Quoting: MayeulCI think you can pretty easily replace those sticks with hall effect sensors. There are even some for the Steam Deck. I saw something about this in a "Linus Tech Tips" video ("ultimate steam deck", IIRC)
Yeah, Gulikit offers replacements for the Deck.
That's no help for other controllers though and absolutely no excuse for the producers of all the other controllers ^^

I'm still amazed those high price controllers still use potentiometer sticks.
After trying out the Gulikit Kingkong, hall effect sticks just are on a whole other level and there is no excuse to not use them on anything that costs more than 30 or 40 bucks. If only the Kingkongs would work better on linux :/

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard hits a bump as FTC seeks to block it

USA politics haven't had the best run in regards to 'sane decisions' the last years...so if they really stop this for good, this would be a very welcomed exception ^^

Quoting: tfkOn YouTube 90 percent of the comments seem to be in vavour of the acquisition... weird but true.
90% of people also deem Windows a sane choice for an OS to put private data on...so that number's not really something to base an important decision on ;)

Lots of good stuff announced at The Game Awards 2022 — roundup

Quoting: Liam DaweProton has nothing to do with it. We’re not even a 2% platform. This has been debated to death by now.
But still there was a higher percentage of native offerings in the past, that's all i'm saying.

Quoting: Liam DaweOr should I say, Proton has very very little to do with it as most developers never considered a Linux port anyway because of the tiny user share. Get user first, then direct support and maybe when it makes sense - native support.
Like i said, i think it has much to do with it. Don't get me wrong, i agree that proton is probably our best chance to solve the chicken and egg problem and it really is absolutely impressive how perfect it works most of the time.

I'm not sure how you compiled the first chart in this article and can't find another statistic of that sort, but i would be really surprised if that curve didn't go down in the last months/years.

I'm probably just an old grumpy dude that slowly but surely has to let go of his principle to only buy native games outside of bundles because of this development and is at least a tad salty because of it xD

Scrolling through the 'just announced' section on https://store.steampowered.com/sale/thegameawards2022 [External Link] really shows the downside of proton: almost exclusively windows titles...
Don't get me wrong, i surely prefer good proton compatibility over a bad port, but it's still sad to see.
