SteamVR Overlay not working on Arch or Manjaro Linux? Here's a fix

Quoting: PalancaValve is doing since last year a poor job on Linux and virtual reality.
I have the very same impression sadly. I really hope that's just because they are caught up with the Deck and it will get better again when that is released and settled down.

Forza Horizon 5 multiplayer should work on Linux with Proton Experimental

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWell, so they got AMD, which gets them Steam Deck. We'll see how much urgency there will be to get NVidia going.
Fwiw, Valve does have the luxury of fixing any potential driver issue with AMD ( Mesa )

With Nvidia, driver issues can only be addressed by Nvidia so i don't think Valve can improve that for them. After all game works with vkd3d-proton.
This - and i really hope they don't start to implement whacky extra-code-paths for proprietary driver shenanigans or something like that...

KDE developer thinks they will become the 'Windows or Android' of the FOSS world

Too be quite frank, since plasma matured there is little to no reason for choosing almost any other DE.
Plasma is fast as hell while being fully customizable and having more than enough eye candy, you can mimik the behaviour of almost any other DE while being either more performant or more feature-rich. Plus, the KDE-Apps are among the very best in most cases imho.
So i tend to agree with Nate ^^
Given, i'm not saying the other DEs don't deserve to exist, it's always nice if someone has passion for something and thus can bring out new great ideas! But from a standpoint of choosing a "default-DE", KDE probably is the best bet for vendor-customization while keeping compatibility.

And with new funding from Valve, it can only get even better :D

Valve upgrades Remote Play for Linux in the latest Steam Client Beta

could that pipewire-dmabuf also help for streaming? (which still doesn't work for linux-hosts the last time i tried)

Humble Choice for November has Project Wingman, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin plus more

Quoting: Ehvis
Quoting: JuliusArgg... And I just bought Project Wingman on a regular sale.

Still this looks like a good selection after some months of less interesting ones (which I paused).
Still not impressed. For me this was my sixth pause in a row. At this rate, it's going to take years to get through my available months.
Yeah, i'm with you on that. I've only got one month left before the next billing and i'm really not sure if i'll keep my classic sub if this trend continues...

Microsoft Edge available officially for Linux today as a stable browser

Quoting: ShabbyXI'm glad they realized they lost this war, and now the poor people that trust microsoft have a working browser. If only they'd realize the same with NT and switch windows's kernel to Linux
They didn't make edge chromium based because they thought chromium was better. They were "forced" to because google was changing how youtube displays videos, which broke hardware decoding. Microsoft developers were even suspecting that google was doing it intentionally to make other browsers perform worse than chromium.
And that is EXACTLY why nobody in their right minds should use ANY chromium-based browser nowadays...

Quoting: fogger
Quoting: Sojiro84and has tab groups like Chrome, those are so good to have.
The "Simple Tab Groups" addon for Firefox is 100 times better. I don't know how I can live without this addon.
I prefer "Panorama Tab Groups" - it's a delight that this removed feature got such a great revival! ^^

My yearly donations to all the projects are currently a bit on hold, but as soon as the new job is sorted out that will be made up and GoL sure is on the permanent list (together with KDE and mozilla ^^)

KDE Plasma gets fingerprint reader support, plus preliminary support for NVIDIA GBM
26 Oct 2021 at 10:29 am UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: GuestNow that nvidia finally supports gbm, why does kde need to support the "nvidia's new gbm" too?
Why is still vendor specific?
It's just a guess but i could imagine it has to do with removing the nv-specific code-paths that were implemented for EGLstreams-Support?
Either way it's good to see that nvidia finally admitted defeat and succumb to supporting the standards ^^

Valve banning games that allow exchanging cryptocurrencies or NFTs
16 Oct 2021 at 9:57 am UTC

NFTs sole purpose is to have another thing to speculate - in other words "to hope to leech money from someone else without a service in return".
So i'm all for removing this cancer whereever possible.
(And yes, if i could decide i also would ban speculation with ressources, stocks and so on)

Euro Truck Sim 2 and American Truck Sim get expanded multiplayer with mod support
5 Oct 2021 at 7:28 am UTC

Quoting: pbNot before they cover the whole Europe (almost there) and US (still a long way to go). And even then I think it would be better to move to other continents instead of making ETS3 for example.
Not entirely wrong, but then they should plan the transition to a more modern engine or update of the existing one - the trucks themselfs look great, but the environment is starting to show its age for sure.
