My yearly donations to all the projects are currently a bit on hold, but as soon as the new job is sorted out that will be made up and GoL sure is on the permanent list (together with KDE and mozilla ^^)

KDE Plasma gets fingerprint reader support, plus preliminary support for NVIDIA GBM

Quoting: GuestNow that nvidia finally supports gbm, why does kde need to support the "nvidia's new gbm" too?
Why is still vendor specific?
It's just a guess but i could imagine it has to do with removing the nv-specific code-paths that were implemented for EGLstreams-Support?
Either way it's good to see that nvidia finally admitted defeat and succumb to supporting the standards ^^

Valve banning games that allow exchanging cryptocurrencies or NFTs
16 Oct 2021 at 9:57 am UTC

NFTs sole purpose is to have another thing to speculate - in other words "to hope to leech money from someone else without a service in return".
So i'm all for removing this cancer whereever possible.
(And yes, if i could decide i also would ban speculation with ressources, stocks and so on)

Euro Truck Sim 2 and American Truck Sim get expanded multiplayer with mod support
5 Oct 2021 at 7:28 am UTC

Quoting: pbNot before they cover the whole Europe (almost there) and US (still a long way to go). And even then I think it would be better to move to other continents instead of making ETS3 for example.
Not entirely wrong, but then they should plan the transition to a more modern engine or update of the existing one - the trucks themselfs look great, but the environment is starting to show its age for sure.

Given that the Index is targeting the higher-end it might be reasonable to assume they would try to target the lower end VR market, too.
Personally i'd really wish for an index with higher res and wireless option though ^^

Epic Games announce full Easy Anti-Cheat support for Linux including Wine & Proton
24 Sep 2021 at 6:59 am UTC

While this is really great news, the most relevant part of this in my opinion is: how is this done? I hope we don't need to install some kind of EAC kernel driver or shit like hat?

Steam has turned 18 years old and PC gaming has never been the same since
13 Sep 2021 at 9:48 am UTC

Oh man, how much did i hate it back then when it was just a messy DRM - made me quit my (halfway successful) counterstrike-career ^^

Given the marketshare of Steam, it's really a blessing that valve didn't rest but kept improving steam to the comfort it offers today...

Valve catches a break in the Steam Controller patent trial versus Ironburg

Every loss for a patent troll is a win for all of humanity - those kind of people can rot and die...

Wine 6.16 is out now with initial HID-based joystick backend work

Quoting: peta77So this means what? Is my Thrustmaster Pendular Rudder Pedals finally recognized in Wine games?
if i understand correctly, that should probably be the case, yes - several players of our SC-Org had missing axis that have been fixed by this - and for me, it even fixed that for the t16000, JS only registred the twist axis and EV was needed for the slider.

Psychonauts 2 releases to great reviews but the Linux support is delayed

Quoting: ProtektorThis is exactly why you don't pre-order a game that promises Linux support.
corrected that for you there ;)
There is never a reason beyond the publisher being anti-consumer to pre-order any digital good
