Nice, I also spent a lot of time as a kid/teen playing Holiday Island.
Can't wait for this to mature more, it's been on my wishlist since it existed more or less.

Kudos.
I once tried to write a text adventure in lolcode.
Lost interest, but it was fun while it lasted.

Quoting: GuestWine's cmd.exe command-line, which I am making a text adventure game engine inThat is one of the weirdest things I've read for a long time.

The impressive first-person metroidvania puzzler "Supraland" now has Linux support

Just scroll through all Steam games tagged with it and it really becomes quite obvious. You won't find many 3D games there, even if they would fit your description.
This is the first time I have even heard Metroidvania applied to a puzzle/exploration FPS. Supraland isn't quite like anything else, so there isn't really a super fitting genre description that I'm aware of. I guess you could add Metroidvania to a bunch of other descriptors, if you really wanted. After all, if you squint really hard, the world in Supraland can be seen as a bunch of "rooms", as well. It's not the worst usage of a genre term I've ever seen, that's for sure.

Quoting: liamdaweThe correct description is whatever the origin is. And that is Metroid + Castlevania (the + is important here, as even the devs cite only the former as an influence). Both series are for the major part 2D games, in a large world that is split into the typical "connected rooms", and have been since decades, which is how the Metroidvania descriptor has always been used - to describe 2D games that come with the typical features.Quoting: TheSHEEEPAlso, so weird that they'd call it Metroidvania, it's not even 2D. But everyone's just using any descriptor anyway they want to nowadays...Depends what you think the "official" description of Metroidvania actually is. It has a large connected world, where you need to get things to access other areas instead of set levels, which is the most common part of what most seem to think makes a Metroidvania.

Already played through it via Proton (worked perfectly), but hey, great news anyway.
Also, so weird that they'd call it Metroidvania, it's not even 2D. But everyone's just using any descriptor anyway they want to nowadays...

The FOSS game engine "Godot Engine" is progressing on Vulkan support

I just wish they would focus on more important things like the lack of proper 3D navigation before tackling stuff like Vulkan.
Oh, well... all in good time, I guess.

Linux Mint doing a small-form-factor MintBox 3, they don't sound too happy about Snaps

Snap only works on Ubuntu?
Didn't even know that... rather weird and seems strangely against the concept.

Paradox Interactive on Linux support, it's being done on a "case by case basis"

Imperator is like a EUIV/CK2 hybrid, but with nowhere near the content of either of them (with all their DLCs). So it will be compared to both games, and not win that comparison in any scenario.
You don't get a 35% (or whatever it is now) rating for being a good game. It doesn't just have "flaws". As I said, part of it is due to the EUIV/CK2 comparisons, part of it due to general fatigue with DLC milking policy, but even if you take that out, what you have is a deeply incomplete game.
Stellaris, too, was really messed up on release, but at least it was its very own thing, not comparable to other Paradox games.
I'm not telling you not to like the game. I sure like a few objectively trashy games, but I do acknowledge their quality and know that most won't like them.

Quoting: HoriExcapt that Imperator had technical issues that prevented many people from playing (I think that's the source of all the hate). No, the source of the hate is that they released an empty shell to be filled with DLC later on. They could have waited a year more with the release. I really think, and hope, that their DLC policy is getting to them. People really begin to notice.

Well, I certainly haven't been buying Imperator, but so haven't a large number of people, for obvious reasons.
Interesting that their Linux sales numbers are dropping over the years, though, that's not the same story as from other devs.

Supraland 2, a sequel to the highly rated first-person metroidvania is crowdfunding and coming to Linux

24 backers looks to me like the dev just put the game on there and hoped for the best.
Also not really an easy idea to sell.
If I hadn't played Supraland, I probably wouldn't believe someone could pull that idea off so well.
Now that the first game was such a success, the developer is of course in a much better position to gain funding.

Quoting: EikeAnybody knows what happened with their first Kickstarter campaign?Completely failed to raise any awareness, probably didn't do any marketing and spreading the word at all.
