The curious tale of vanishing Linux & SteamOS ports, a status on a few of them

Divinity: Original Sin is a different case. Developers promised Linux version during crowdfunding, and they never said they cancelled it. They just had a lot of setbacks and didn't plan it well, but they delivered it in the end.
Regarding Witcher 3, at this point I'm not expecting them to do anything anymore. Our best bet is for Wine developers to make it playable. If I'll hear anything new from them, I'll update the TW3 thread though.

Will GOG add the Linux demo as well? I'll back them when they'll reach the stretch goal.
Why exactly do they propose building SDL from source? SDL2 is commonly packaged in all distros. And especially doing make install is a bad idea. If you need to build it that way, place it locally. Never do make install.

Please folks, just drop using this term (AAA). It's practically useless because it's highly ambiguous and confusing without explaining every time what's implied. So spell it out. Whether you are talking about games funded by the publisher, or produced by self funded studio (independent = indie), whether you are talking about high budget or low budget games, and whether you mean high quality / low quality games. All those categories aren't matching each other 1:1, yet often called AAA or indie by different people. A lot of time there is simply a disagreement what it all means.
Personally when I use term indie, I simply mean self funded studios and their games. They can be high quality, and big budget (Star Citizen for example). The same way, games funded by the publishers can be low quality (but usually are high budget). So original meaning of AAA (quality) wouldn't apply to them. That's why I simply avoid using this term. It never contributes any clarity to the discussion (quite on the contrary).

I disagree. Valve should not repeat console market approach.
Issues:
1. Valve want partners to make hardware (Dell and others). Not to compete with them. It's the same reason Google were hesitant to make mobile hardware.
2. There should not be "one hardware target". That's easy but also very bad, since games simply won't work properly on anything else. No thanks, but thanks. You should not ask for such lock-in.
About the rest - I agree. Such consoles should be as cheap as possible, but not cheaper! Don't forget that incumbent consoles (MS and Sony) aren't priced realistically, they are subsidized. Steam Machines aren't supposed to do that, they are intended to disrupt the market with real competition, and bring prices to real level.
