Quoting: scaineI've never once, ever, in over 1100 games, experienced a launcher which improved a game experience. I don't even read the text they inevitable try to force down your throat - there's a "Play" button and I press it, rolling my eyes.Only launcher I can live with is the Elite Dangerous launcher. I'd prefer not to have it either, as it also just adds an annoying layer, but it has at least some benefits: It shows current server status, and it allows me to switch between Horzions and Odyssey while having both installed. But this one is the exception.

They did it already with The Quarry. And on the first launch on Deck, it wouldn't start, though on the second launch. But it induced quite some stutter and jitter to the frame rate. The game works much smoother and better without the launcher using the same method to override the executable ran by Steam + Proton.

Unfortunately due to the move to EGL, the nvfbc plugin doesn't work anymore as it relies on GLX. And it helped a lot with performance, when capturing the desktop. Need to check about performance now, but back then capturing Cyberpunk 2077 via window capture didn't always work (window was black), and desktop capture made the game laggy. So I tested nvfbc (with the nvidia-patch to enable nvfbc in the driver) and it was a blast! Easy to use, I could select one dedicated desktop (as I'm using multiple desktop planes) and no performance hit at all.
Maybe desktop capture is now more performant, but I haven't updated yet.

Normally I get my survey every August 1st... but not this year. 2022 it was on the 2nd August.

I feel like it's worth mentioning, that the work that has been done behind the scenes so GE could pull it together isn't appreciated enough. People have been making fun of me for using Proton and not GE-Proton, because GE-Proton is so much better. They don't seem to understand that without the work of the Wine-, Proton-, DXVK-, VKD3D-Team is making, GE-Proton wouldn't be possible at all. Proton is the stable version, it has gone through QA from Valve so customers will have a smooth experience. GE-Proton is bleeding edge, pulling in the latest patches from various repos, it's so to speak the testing version where issues are likely to happen. Yes, GE puts in a lot of effort as well, and it helps to get games a bit sooner working on Linux, but don't forget about the developers implementing the patches to make games work. They deserve way more attention and appreciation than they currently get.

Quoting: TermyDRG is agreat game, picked it up in the last sale.Random crashes are happening to me now with GTFO. As soon as I set "PROTON_LOG=1 %command%" as launch option, to maybe get an idea where it locks up... it's not happening anymore. So I suspect a race condition, which is mitigated by the active logging. Maybe this works for DRG as well? Could create huge log files though :)
Unfortunately, right after that it seems they released an update that made it crash randomly for some linux users - including me :(
It's really annoying and doesn't seem to follow any pattern. Sometimes it runs perfectly for hours on end, sometimes it crashes after 5min over and over again...

NVIDIA driver 515.57 and Vulkan Beta 515.49.06 out now

After downgrading to 510 again, an upgrade with i386 packages included to 515 went smoothly though, and everything works now. So yeah, you might have to do some terminal tinkering, but it's working now.

Quoting: robredzSince 27th of June it should all work, you might have to install the recommended packages manually though. E.g. for me "apt install nvidia-driver-515" wasn't enough when initially upgrading from 510 when the 32 bit libs where still missing. So I was able to install it, skipping the missing libs, 64 bit games worked, 32 bit games didn't...Quoting: CorbenAnd I just updated to 515.48.07 on Ubuntu which had the 32bit libs missing for a while.I had to revert to 510, as multiple games refused to load in Steam with the 515 driver and the missing 32 bit libs might try that patch repo, if it works OK with RTX cards
K, waiting for this update to arrive :)
I'm wondering about the NvFBC entries though, I thought that feature is only available to quadro cards? I mean, there is the "nvidia-patch" repo which enables NvFBC for consumer cards, and I can highly recommend it especially when using OBS with the obs-nvfbc plugin, as it improves performances significantly over the "normal" desktop capture of OBS. And I don't have many regrets patching the driver, as it's really just a software flag, the hardware is totally capable... it's just this feeling doing stuff outside of official support.

Looks like Valve are gearing up for a new 'Deckard' VR Headset

With the Steam Deck improving gaming overall on Linux, I hope the Deckard will help with VR games on Linux. There are still quite some annoyances, like async reprojection (on nVidia) still having issues, Steam VR crashes, etc. And while Windows users can use LIV to present VR games easily in mixed reality to viewers, we Linux gamers have to hope for integrated 3rd person cams or to depend on mods. And even then it's kinda tricky to do the calibration manually.
Valve has done a great job with the Deck... fingers crossed they can pull off another success story with their next VR HMD.
