Our top favourite Linux games released in 2020

Urtuk and DRAG are my absolute favourites this year, even before CK3 (which I love too but I need to dive in to really enjoy it, and I haven't yet, while both Urtuk and DRAG kept my attention since day one). Those games are not finished, but it's already clear how their developers are attached to details and did a remarkable work so far.

Also enjoying Mount and Blade 2 and MFS 2020 using Shadow cloud computing. Not quite Linux games though, sadly, but I'm glad I can play them from my Linux machine without a dual boot.

I was also very excited about Noita since a long time before it's pre-release, but in the end didn't get the time to play it yet. I sunk a lot of hours into Nimbatus too, but that was before 2020, in one of the betas.

The game is extremely fun in coop with friends (and even strangers). There's a lot to explore, and many surprises along the adventure. I really enjoy it and keep getting back to it regularly.

It's really nice in solo too @ehvis, but you have to take some time to configure the AI of your bots if you want them to behave the way you want, and understanding how to set priorities can be time-consuming. It's rewarding though. It really is one of this games I purchased without expecting much, but was impressed with in the end.

- Haven't been in the mood to play anything in the last 4 months.
- Purchased the game.
- Sunk 4 hours into it in a row when I was supposed to work on a urgent thing.

The combat and progression are really, really nice. There is a "one last fight" aspect to this game, I know it since I just went into 15 "last fights" before going to bed and finally came here to post about Urtuk because I wanted to play this even longer.

Fluid Simulation is one of the most mesmerising things I've seen in a while

Seeing how easy it is to reproduce the eye of a cyclone just swirling your finger rapidly on a touch screen is kind of fascinating:

Quoting: Doc AngeloImagine someone would make a 3D game in space that is physically correct and you have to plot courses to other planets which are moving all the time and will be at a completely different place when you get there.

I think only very few people would have fun with this.
Rogue System is doing that. Development is very slow, but it is a great game. Very alpha at the moment though, don't expect dogfights or even enemies.

In the past it did run on Linux with Wine, not sure if this is still the case with the current version.

Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Quoting: KabouikNot sure if this has been posted, but I am 32 pages late and that is a bit much to catch up while I'm at work.

There is a community-driven list of games that run or crash with Steam Play/Proton, it is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQ3_odz8JzEVK80vkku-b6FsICWb45xGf4VYnzYz5cNSMVQ-5BA2WoHBGAScw96MgLj1ONA7Cx0tyGa/pubhtml# [External Link]

Since the official whitelisting process can take some time, is probably more conservative, and does not show what has been tested but failed, it might be worth posting this list in the GOL article so that people know about it. There are 50k reads on the article at the moment, imagine if even a small percentage of those people were documenting about the tests they are currently doing with their game library.

While the testing from the community is not necessarily exhaustive, seeing if a game fails terribly or runs smoothly on someone else's computer would help deciding whether to download 50 GB off Steam and try.
Quoting myself in the hope that Liamdawe sees my message.

The game is fantastic. I've sunk more than 20 hours into it already and it's only been a few days since I purchased it.

Helium Rain will most likely release in 1.0 this year, and it is already a real jewel in its current state, the gameplay is great and there is a lot of depth in the mechanics and the economy. It's not only a good game by Linux standards (a platform on which fewer games are available), but I believe it's also one of the best space games so far, including Windows-only games.

This looks amazing, although I don't like the strong focus on food that I can see in the reviews (reviews are pretty fun though). I will likely get a key tonight, I love the concept and incentive to cooperate.
