Gas Guzzlers Extreme looks like it is going to come to Linux, porting starts soon

The most recent comment in the thread indicates it is an in-house port. Best case scenario!

Valve rep mentions they will eventually survey Big Picture & SteamOS

Quoting: Mountain ManI guarantee that Valve knows exactly how many people are using Linux and SteamOS. They need to be able to track that information to make sure the right developers get paid, so I've never been entirely clear on the point of the hardware survey.
It is a HARDWARE survey. That is the point of it. Unfortunately, it also includes software stats, which I believe are not only useless, but harmful.

Quoting: amonobeaxwhich is why I don't get why do we bring those numbers monthly.
It's not me who is bringing the numbers. I am simply registering my interest in specific games with their developers... The developers are the ones pointing at the numbers. This is the problem.

I submitted that bug report because I didn't see one already and while it's not exactly Linux-specific, it affects Linux more than anyone else due to SteamOS and developers using the hardware survey as an excuse to not release games on the platform. Example link for those who didn't go to the bug report: https://twitter.com/TheRevillsGames/status/694422282333065216 [External Link]

This really, really bothers me. It is a HARDWARE survey, but developers see it more as an OS survey, and are seemingly ignorant as to its shortcomings.

Batman: Arkham Knight for Linux & SteamOS cancelled

I was looking forward to it, but I played other Batman games on PS3 and I found the first one was great, and they progressively got worse. I feel I'm not missing much, and hopefully it means we'll be getting other, better games from Feral.

Perhaps this is why Mad Max suddenly popped back up?

Co-hosts needed for the GOL podcast!

I look forward to hearing a GoL podcast! I hope whoever ends up in it is both knowledgeable and mature - the exact opposite of the only Linux gaming cast that everyone seems to know about.

Also, Matthew... Your name sounds familiar, but I can't place it... Were you around on MUB back in the day? Did you ever visit The Mandrake eXPerience?

Gothic RPG roguelike Darkest Dungeon coming soon to Linux

I think preventing reviews during Early Access makes even more sense. You can't really review a game properly if it's going to potentially change massively. It has absolutely no benefit to anyone, except in the case where the game is already really good. But if a game lacks polish and balancing, then those negative reviews are not going to go away, and could have done lasting damage in sales potential in the meantime.

The same is true for games which release proper, yet are still broken and unbalanced... But in those cases, the devs perhaps should have considered Early Access for final polishing and such.

Or just do away with Early Access altogether... Very few games ship complete these days anyhow.

New Linux & SteamOS gamer survey for February

I wish there was a "Same answers as last month" option that would auto-fill everything for me. Yes, I am that lazy!

Tomb Raider, the awesome 2013 version looks like it's heading to SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: boltronicsI finished Tomb Raider 2013 back in Jan 2014 under Wine. I wish they would focus on porting games that *don't* work great under Wine, like the new Tomb Raider. :(
Screw that. I'd rather they focus on porting good games and "Linux gamers" stop buying non-Linux games in the first damn place.

Quoting: shigutsoAccording to Square-Enix, FF13 is also coming to Linux, right? Wrong... maybe this is the same :(
What are you even talking about? An OpenVR Linux depot does not equate to "Square-Enix announced a game for Linux." This is a way, way different situation.
