INSURGENCY team-based realistic FPS coming to Linux

Quoting: SameSameThe biggest problem is that Linux users cannot even get along with each other even when they same the same thing, want the same thing, struggling towards the same goal.

It is also the biggest advantage that everyone can fix it the way they want, so they do not really need to get along, for the most parts.

XKCD covered it pretty good in 3 frames.

I haven't seen that from anyone apart from Canonical and Gnome devs, those guys have a serious NIH syndrome. Rest of the guys can usually get along with each other pretty nicely.

And BTW, may I ask how this is relevant to this article?

Quoting: Quote from krscueDude, the text is right there in the video, you really don't have to read it out loud.
IMO.
If he didn't say things out aloud it wouldn't be a cast.
If you were able to read you'd know I didn't tell him to not speak, just not read out all the conversations in the game.
It would be more useful if he talked about his experience with the game, not the stuff we can already see.
That's a valid point. I wasn't completely sure what to do with those conversations and because I normally do Let's Play videos I went ahead and did what I usually do, which means reading everything possible out loud. I have to agree that it didn't work so well with the GOL Cast format and I will try to avoid that in the future.

Considering most of these comments are now about DRM on Steam I would suggest for the sake of staying on-topic for all the rest of this DRM debate to be posted on the relevant forum thread that we set up when we saw this type of a thing last time. The people here have made it clear why Steam is or is not DRM and future comments don't have to clarify upon that. If you believe this conversation needs to be kept alive and you think you have a valid point, please post your comments to the thread linked below:

GOL Cast: Crashing On Zombie Infested Islands in Estranged: Act I
20 Jan 2014 at 5:56 pm UTC

Quoting: Quote from Bumadarit's quiet enjoyable, only thing I found wrong was the guy at the start, still nasty mobs and his family is missing and he is like here have my gun I don't need it.... would be more convincing if he was hurt/dyeing.

but for the rest good good fun
In the beta he had a shotgun and didn't care too much about the small pistol, but they decided to change the whole thing. They should have kept the original beginning IMO, but luckily it's just a minor thing.

Quoting: Quote from PKM"They believe pay 2 win is fine, if it doesn't upset other players"
But they don't have any pay2win items as far as I am aware, lot's of skins but nothing that gives you advantage over other players (unless you count your character looking fabulous as a advantage) at least not for Dota 2 or TF2.
Last time I played TF2 it had plenty of items that had different statistics including weapons and I had pretty rubbish stuff too.
I think the items balance each other out pretty nicely. Good items usually have bad side-effects and you need to think about the loadout synergies to really make the items suit your playstyle. Basically there are no bad weapons or good weapons, there are just weapons that suit other situations better than others.

Mutant Gangland Turn Based Strategy game To Hit Early Access This Month & Go Open Source

Quoting: Quote from WNon-commerical licenses aren't open source though :/ I can understand using an NC license for the artwork, but not the code. That means other people can't start a crowdfunding campaign to hire someone to add new features.
You are mistaking "open source" as "free software". If you've ever listened to Stallman, he always states there is difference between the two terms. Open source means that the code is there for people to inspect, free/libre software (by GPL) means that the code is distributed publicly and derivative work can be published as long as the derivative is also licensed under GPL and follows their terms.

In this case the software is indeed open source, but not free software as the license restricts you from making your own commercial derivative. To me that sounds pretty fair and gives the users a lot of freedom when compared to most commercial software out there.

Quoting: Quote from philip550cEveryone I know that bought the bundle has it on steam now. I thought it was a public release?
I don't know really. Xpander told me that he couldn't download it, but I am not sure if he bought the bundle. I think if you got it through the bundle it became downloadable to you or something like that, but for now some people can't seem to download it through Steam.

Quoting: Quote from minjSo was this gameplay recorded on a windows box or have you managed to get it on Steam on Linux?
I got access to it for some reason. The material I post is always recorded and edited on Linux. I haven't even had an installation of Windows for a long time.

Introduction to Livestreaming on Linux Using Castawesome
7 Jan 2014 at 1:15 pm UTC

Quoting: Quote from hardpenguinWhy not just bundle all necessary libraries (FFmpeg etc) in proper versions along with Castawesome? :3
I've thought about this, but for now I've been relying on software provided by the distribution for maintenance reasons.

Quoting: Quote from MagevaniaWhat about the badwidth requirements for these "broadcasting" tasks?
It's completely dependent on the settings you use. I have 0.8 mbps upload speed and I can get a stable stream with 856x480 resolution (with 1280x720 input resolution), 400k bitrate and 25 FPS framerate. If your upload speed is less than 0.5 mbps or if you are on an unstable mobile connection then streaming might get a bit difficult.

Quoting: Quote from pwburkhardtIs there a way to record and save the videos witout streaming for a normal Lets Play?
Castawesome is meant to be a livestreaming tool and I don't think it would make a very good desktop/game recorder, but SimpleScreenRecorder works for that. I've made an article with a tutorial video about it some time ago here: http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/linux-game-recording-the-process-behind-creating-gol-casts.2421

I use that for the videos I post here on GOL and I've also been making LP videos on my personal channel using it for 5 months now. The videos are in Finnish, but they should give you an idea what the end result will be like: http://www.youtube.com/user/MrSamsai/videos [External Link]

Introduction to Livestreaming on Linux Using Castawesome
6 Jan 2014 at 4:56 pm UTC

Quoting: Quote from LuckiMaybe i don't get the point of your program, but as you already use Simple Screen Recorder to record this video, why don't you use it also for livestreaming? With OpenGL-recording you don't even need to set up a screen region.

SSR is already great for capturing video, so i think, Linux needs a better way to arrange the video with overlays, pause-screens, moving text for the background song, … - like xsplit.
Maybe you can hook up into SSR and focus your program on the streaming.
Well, SSR actually supports experimental livestreaming on its own, I just find the UI too clunky for that. Also, I started this project before I had any knowledge about high quality multimedia apps like SSR (back when I recorded all my videos with the horrible RecordMyDesktop) and since then I have been keeping this project alive while waiting for someone to make a better livestreaming application. I think I lack the skills to make anything similar to XSplit or OBS.

Quoting: Quote from minjIs there anything to gain by using avconv rather than ffmpeg?
I don't think there is. As far as I know they are pretty much identical.
