Proton Experimental begins work to allow Resident Evil Village to run on Linux

There are plenty of great native Linux games. There is nothing wrong if someone personally decides that he will only buy those. If anything, if he decides to buy a native game instead of non-native, it can only be good for Linux gaming.

Quoting: orochi_kyoWow. That's got to be the most toxic post I've ever seen here. All WorMzy did was stated that he personally isn't interested in the game, if it doesn't have a native Linux version. And what's wrong with that?Quoting: WorMzyAside from remakes, Resident Evil hasn't produced a decent game in over 10 years. Not heard much about Village, but I don't have high hopes. Regardless, if it doesn't have native Linux support, I'm not interested.Capcom is going bankrupt cause you do not care. But the other 99% of Linux gamers will be fine with just clicking play on the game in Steam and able to play without the need of Dual Boot.
Damn Valve and it's 30%(25% in this case, this game will get easily over the million copies sold), they should be getting nothing, so Linux gamers can go into oblivion again. So much arrogance coming from the 3-4% of the market.
I love Linux but some Linux gamers are not conscious they mean nothing to most developers out there.

Quoting: LordDaveTheKindI would definitely buy and play it, if I wasn't kind of sensitive to horror and gore :sick:But why? There are so many other great games, what makes this one so special? From what I've seen of it, I really couldn't understand the appeal. I'm not hating on it, I'm genuinely asking, because usually I at least to some degree get the hype for certain games, but on this one I'm really lost.
VR is absolutely insane, I am officially a convert and it works mostly great on Linux

Quoting: Horibut then again, PC gaming in general is expensive, so...That's only true if you want to limit yourself to the newest AAA games which I don't know why you would, since AAA games have been going downhill for a good few years now.

That said... If someone wants to stream this and make fun of it, I'm so on board with that.

Quoting: XpanderWoaah... they are asking 59.99€ for this trash game. Triple A gaming in a nutshell.Exactly. I understand that someone might enjoy this, but I'm really surprise how much traction this game is getting (it's all due to the tick vampire lady, isn't it?). Better spend the money on some Linux native indies.
Saw some gameplay videos, its really awful game it seems.. gunplay is sort of ok it seems except the stupidly narrow FoV. atmosphere is zero, puzzles seem to be made for 4 year olds. There seems to be not much horror in this. Enemies don't even follow you everywhere, so you can reset their positions. Graphis look quite dated for todays Triple A studio. Main protagonist seems to scream and make noises when he sees corpses and whatnot but at the same time just grows a new hand lol. Voiceacting is terrible etc etc
Yeah, i bet if this game had different name than Resident Evil, all would say that its quite a trash.
my 2 cents
nice to see proton supporting new games fast though.

After 2 years of owning it, I was finally able to get into Hollow Knight. About 11 hours in and yes, it lives up to the hype, despite me not liking platformers. Although I still dislike the platforming sections and whichever developer designed the Fungal Wastes section is an absolute sadist.

Quoting: uglyCan confirm, the banker's building is still all black. I haven't switched to the beta though.Quoting: PJthe previous version worked without a hitch on my end. But I'm happy to see this new one - gives me another excuse to hop in and spend some more time with "Hollow Knight". This game is among the best platformers I've played and the style is simply amazing.I thought so too.
But there was one error that I didn't notice until I saw it mentioned elsewhere. There were some textures that didn't show in the Linux version. One example was the banker's building that would show up as all black. It was just that with the atmosphere of the game, the all black textures didn't look totally out of place.

I have to give them credit: Aside from Steam, both their games are available on all 3 other good stores: Itch, GOG and Humble. Although for some reason, Overgrowth doesn't appear on Itch search.

Quoting: GideonGriebenowThat sounds awesome, I'm a real sucker for combinations of strategy and any kind of 3th/1st person control in it. Thank you for the reply.Quoting: RoosterWait so will you be able to control the settlers manually or is that just a different camera view?Hi. Developer here. At the moment it’s just a view, but I would really like to include some controls in such a view. I’m still thinking about what would fit.
