Quoting: no_information_hereThey weren't even going to port Oblivion to newer consoles. Even the Oblivion build of the engine is so old, it's incompatible with current technology and they weren't going through the extra effort even for the console kiddies. If they weren't going to port Oblivion to consoles, they weren't even considering Morrowind to anything.Quoting: [email protected]Wine IS one of those reasons. With that logic you should be against OpenMW because it lowers the chance that Bethesda will someday port Morrowind. Look forward, not back.

Quoting: [email protected]Wine IS one of those reasons.Well, Windows and DOS compatibility didn't help OS/2. That's why nobody really made OS/2 Apps. Devs were like "We'll make it both for Windows and OS/2 by only making a Windows version" or "We'll make it for all x86 platforms by making it for DOS, Windows can switch to DOS and NT and OS/2 Users have a DOS Subsystem".
What have you been playing recently, and what do you think?

Morrowind with the OpenMW Engine and Quake 3 with the IOQuake3 Engine.
I can't comment much on morrowind because I'm grinding up skills before I do any quests because I want to do the most boring things I can think of first and things get more interesting from there. So far, I have 100 hand-to-hand, 100 acrobatics, 100 speechscraft, 100 unarmoured, 100 sneak and I'm now working Light Armour. Hand to hand is actually pretty powerful, you could punch somebody to drain their fatigue and once they're down, you can just keep on punching until their health runs out.
As for Quake 3, I'm playing on Hardcore with bots and it's pretty hard for me, but I think I've done most of the Maps.

Though maybe I should try Boss Rush Mode, the boss fights are pretty fun.

Quoting: tuubiI gave up after an hour or so. I like platformers, but this one was a bit... frantic for me.Yeah, I know what you mean. I found this game frustrating. I like to make a goal to last at least 10 seconds before I die and I end up restarting the level a lot. Not saying it's a bad game, it just clashes with my play style.

That would be really funny if it's actually better than the Windows version. The optimization for Windows is shit and it actually has worse performance on DX12.
Feral isn't exactly known for making ports that run good, but that would be a shame to Square if the Linux port was actually better.

Now, I don't really have much cash to spare, but if I did, I would feel conflicted.
On one hand, Unreal would make Linux more viable for AAA games because it's here now and it's usable, but on the other hand, I do miss the days when devs would open source their engines and they can't do that with Unreal and part of me would rather put money in Godot where it's MIT licensed meaning devs would have the option to open source their engines. What Id Software did in the 90's was only really viable in the 90's when having your own engine and not using middleware was feasible because games were less complicated back then.

I think the gaming enthusiast dedicated market could be dying for CPUs. Not to say you won't have high end CPUs in the future, but with Vulkan coming out, it makes sense to get a lot of cores and you can get 12 cores by investing in used Xeons and it will cost only $140. I know of a guy that invested in a dual xeon rig.

Superuser:
Let me rephrase that: I'm tired of arena shooters, there are enough arena shooter shovelware out there. Any dev can make an arena shooter, it takes a huge team to make an open world RPG.
