That sounds interesting. I have an old-ish laptop here that I want to turn into a HTPC/Kodi/EmulationStation thing and this sounds like a good fit.

Killing the steam link is probably killing game streaming for me once the hardware breaks down. I'm not going to connect a TV to my network. Those things are practically spies, spambots and hackme's all rolled into one.
