Steam Play recently hit 500 Windows games rated as Platinum on ProtonDB

Quoting: einherjarIf I look at the things like exclusives in Epic Store, Discord, Ubisoft heading away from Steam and so on, I don't think that there will be a lot of AAA Titles on Steam....
So proton perhaps won't bring as AAA Titles, because they don't appear on Steam :-(
I am not aware that Epic had an interesting exclusive other than Fortnite itself, which is that current hype game without the store would probably collapse inside 5 mins.

Ubi - either I am missing something, or they still sell their titles on Steam, they just require a link to UPlay to work.

The only larger publishers I am aware of that consistently refuse to sell on Steam are EA and Blizz, and those have been doing so for a long time now.
As far as I read, in the future Ubisoft won't sell new games on Steam: Link (German) [External Link]
The Division 2 will only be on Epic Store and Uplay....

Which may be more interesting and valuable to some, since it will include a lot of AAA titles.

Quoting: fedotixIt seems far away the day Linus Torvald insulted Nvidia...
We must accept that NVIDIA today is more cooperative with Linux System.
As a Nvidia user myself, I still feel they are doing the bare minimum just so they can say they support Linux.
Hmm, I do not agree. I'm happy with my Nvidia drivers. Open Source would be even better, but so what?
They do well, if you remind yourself, that we are about 1% of there customers ;-)

GOG are giving away SOMA, act fast to secure your copy of this great Linux game

That is the only way I purchase games on GOG - for free :-)

I will consider buying games on GOG, if there is propper Linux support. Until then, Valve gets my money...

"Blitzkrieg" by Tencent/China?

Seems they want become the Nr. Player in Gaming-Shops.

I am not sure if that is a good development. There where other industries, that where killed by the Chinese. The Photovoltaik-Industrie in Germany e.g. is down. The chinese manufacturers sold their panels for less then the production-costs until the other companys gave up AFAIK.

Perhaps we see a similar strategy here. Don't earn money with the 10% cut? Doesn't matter. If you are backed by the Chinese government, this is no problem....

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive introduces a Battle Royale mode, goes free to play

Quoting: tonRAlso, curious on how Source ability to support/running battle royale.
What do you think is the big difference between "battle royal" and old fashioned "last man standing"?

They must improve a lot to get it running smooth with a high number of players. But BR with 16 people? That is something that was no problem 15 years ago.

I played a few times on Ubuntu 18.10.
First start I got an error message.
After this, everything worked fine.

Game is funny, but not that great. But good to have those type of game in Linux. I am sure they will make more out of it. But we will see.

BATTLETECH for Linux updated, releases Flashpoint expansion – some thoughts
29 Nov 2018 at 11:19 am UTC

Quoting: GuestSorry if you don't mean it that way, but it "sounds" like that you think I'm being overly demanding. Like somehow my money is worth less because I use GNU/Linux. Which is really the core of the matter: Battletech was already funded and promised for everything I wrote, yet it's completely ok to ignore that because....GNU/Linux?
I think you ignore some facts.
1. It is not, that they did not deliver all there promises only an Linux. Look at the people complaining about the missing German translation. That was promised too.
2. They surely do not look at you personally. But if you must disappoint people, because of to optimistic planning, whom would you dissapoint? The 98% of your customers or the 2%?
3. And yes, the money from 1000 Linuxers is worth less, then the money 100000 Windows-Users....

Quoting: GuestSo I guess if I'm part of a demanding minority because I expect a company to do what they've been more than fully paid to do....uh....thanks, I guess.
I think you are! Simply because what I told above. When it comes to delays (show me the Softwareprojects where this does not happen...) you have to disappoint a group of your customers. Which group will that be?
I doesn't seem to me, that they wanted to care less for Linuxusers.

Quoting: GuestOh, and "Proton" doesn't help you here. Other than it's playing a Windows game, and seeing as you mentioned it other than wine, it's also a Windows game on Steam (realistically). Which is of no help bringing new games to GNU/Linux because you're then reliant on Windows still, and on top of that it's Valve who control your gaming, not you. Which maybe you're fine with (even I tolerate it), but seeing as this specifically is for a GOG release as well, then it's not for everyone (I buy single player games on GOG where possible simply because I get more control over the game and its updates).
Think a moment over that. If we just had GOG and Valve wouldn`t care for Linux. How much games would we have on Linux? I guess there would be a great nothing, which you than could control...

Nice to here. I will tell my son about the game. Perhaps he likes it and can play it with his friends. The only problem may be, that his friends actually can never play something else than only fortnite

BATTLETECH for Linux updated, releases Flashpoint expansion – some thoughts
28 Nov 2018 at 10:51 pm UTC

Quoting: Guest... Dramatic perhaps, but we shouldn't forget just how low priority GNU/Linux has been....
I am sure, there priority was about 2% in relation to the Windows release. And that is understandable. If they had problems and there plan was to optimistic, they must prioritize (in fact, they must do this all the time). It is that simple. Normal project business.

I can understand, that backers waiting for Linux-Releases, are disappointed. But to be honest, I would never back a Game. I know that 90% of software projects run into delays and other problems. And then they will never prioritize the OS with the 2% market share. Even if the backers from Linux are more than the 2%.

So it is always a high risk and the chance for disappointment is IMHO more then 80% and that even, if the devs want to fulfill there promises.
