This is really, really big. Haven't been this excited about Linux gaming since the release of Proton.

Talking point: what have you been playing recently?

I've finally gotten around to try a classic series: Myst !

I've been on a bit of a point-and-click spree those past few months, starting with Quern [External Link] then replaying all The Room [External Link] games. It was only natural to continue with the franchise that pretty much kick-started the genre.

I am almost at the end of the 4th game, without any external help so far. Hoping I can keep that going for the final game.

And yes, I'm playing on Linux with Proton  All games have worked out-of-the box so far except one (I think it was Myst 3) that required a bit of tweakery. ProtonDB was very helpful for that, as always.

VR is absolutely insane, I am officially a convert and it works mostly great on Linux

US Supreme Court sides with Google against Oracle about copying APIs being 'fair use'

Phew, glad that's off our chest. With how uneducated the justice system is about IT stuff in general, this could have ended very badly.

Steam Link app now available for the Linux desktop

Quoting: MayeulCThis is huge, especially the bit about they releasing it on flathub.

I wish they built it for ARM as well, though maybe it is usable in qemu-binfmt? Is it using HW-accelerated decoding with VA-API or similar?

I also wouldn't be surprised if it ends up reverse-engineered.
This ! Steam Link would go very well with the Pinebook Pro (well, assuming it can use the hardware decoder)

What Never Was: Chapter II gets a teaser trailer and a Steam page

Huh, no friggin way. I liked the first chapter, it was a short and sweet little demo, but had no idea a sequel was coming.

I love Myst-like games and there aren't enough of them, so I'll watch this one with great interest

(the first chapter had awful performance though, I don't know if it's a Linux-specific issue but let's hope they'll fix that)

If you like this type of games too I highly recommend checking out Quern: https://store.steampowered.com/app/512790/Quern__Undying_Thoughts/ [External Link]

/*-That's what I'm waiting for as well, it's needed for Cyberpunk 2077.

I hope it doesn't take Nvidia too long to incorporate this extension into their drivers.
Quoting: ikirutoRTX 2060 and Ryzen 1700 works without problems on Proton-Experimental with the settings in the screenshots and hex fix.

gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip

Use a hex editor on the Cyberpunk2077.exe.
Replace "75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08" with "EB 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08".
Replace "55 48 81 ec a0 00 00 00 0f 29 70 e8" with "c3 48 81 ec a0 00 00 00 0f 29 70 e8".
It seems the fix should be in exe for Nvidia. (second hand info though)
Doesn't that hex edit only affects the core scaling of the game ? Vk3d3d devs were saying that the engine is relying on undefined behavior in DX12, which is the cause of the crashes. I doubt core scaling has anything to do with that.
Besides, the crash are very random, so just because he didn't experience them after applying the fix doesn't mean the issue is solved.
