This game is a gem. Played it about 2 years ago i think for the fist time, and replayed it this month, it bends genre, in a great way, and i love games that don't do the easy like-the-other-but different stuff.
It reminds me of Shores of Hazeron, a hugly MMOG with a extremely awesome concept i played years ago, with a much smaller scale of course.

I guess it's because at least you know what you are forced to buy, instead of being forced to blindly buy...

I'm following it since a while. If it's going well, it will be awesome.
The max unit count in this version i think is... 15 000 ! It really targets the large scale, and things on map are 1:1, so for example a bed is not just one tile, it's at least 2 + space around + carpets + furniture... The game advises for a simple starting colony with 10 peons to make vegetables field a 8x8 zone + another for fruits, while in many other games alike (such as the amazing Odd Realm), it's like 2x3.
So cities grow large fast, and it's crazy.

That game is awesome, have it for maybe 2 years, great progress.
It's a lot like Factorio at its start : a failure, low player population, not enough com', "ugly" visual...
Look at Factorio today, sold thousands of units, it's a genre almost.

I tested it, and i feel it's bad. Visual and musics are excellent, but gameplay is wasted. Controls are bad, squirrel does not behave like you may expect from a squirrel. Weird to write, but that's my main feeling... Also, didn't do it myself, but it seems the game is extra short, like 2 hours long, and you cannot save. The game literally tells you at the beginning you can't save because the game is pretty short. Also, no key rebinding, and my xBoxOne USB didn't work.

Too bad it's going to be "historical", and not "mythological" with beasts, gods, etc.

Vigilantes is great indeed, played it, showed it on video, talked about it on forum, but got little traction... Visual is not helping much, the color palett is kind of weird, i guess.
Rebel Cops is nice, but lacks some option (camera rotation, remove auto-tracking camera on action, easy zoom in action etc), and i find it extremely difficult ! Didn't manage yet to win the first mission after the tutorial, the one with the train and the timer. Also having only 3 saves per mission, having turn based quite slow paced, make the redoing again and again when you are as bad as i am, painful.

I'm absolutely no expert, and with my non-expert view, i'd think itchio is better for indie to launch or prelaunch, because less cut. Then when you get some traction from the first players (free advertisment from youtube, forum, twitter etc), and you have fixed the first annoying bugs or balance etc, you can better second launch on Steam and avoid the "Negativers", or part of them.
Or not.

Great game, i made a mod on it, it was fun to do, and at the time the dev was very helpful. Back then we were i think 4-5 people on the Discord. I don't know how it is today, didn't ply for a while.
