Over 10 years later 7 Days to Die is going to leave Early Access

I normally avoid Early Access games but this game...I have 1,028.6 hrs in it. It's basically the game that introduced me to "open world crafting" and I always seem to come back to it. I'm not even really into zombie games but this one somehow ticks all the boxes for me. The crafting system is excellent and much more balanced now than it used to be - long gone are the days of finding an end-game automatic weapon on day one in the trash. Even though I've memorized most of the POI's at this point, it still seems to maintain just enough tension to still be exciting clearing one, especially in the early game. The overall improvements to balance and progression over the last year or two have really improved the game and breathed new life into it. If you haven't picked it up in a while, I'd recommend giving it a shot again. And if you're new to it...I envy you!

Quoting: micha..does anyone have a good reason why a huge chunk moved from macosx to windows since end of last year?
That was right about when the Intel-based Mac supply dried up (they discontinued them earlier in the year). The new ARM chips are good but it's not x86 so there's still a ton of software which will need to be ported over to it to take full advantage of the architecture. In the meantime, there's emulation but that always comes at a performance cost which may be negligible or significant depending on the app.

That's just a guess but the timing does seem to coincide. I know it's been a challenge for my own company that we're still working through since none of us devs want to give up our MBP's for a Windows laptop.

I've finally reached mid-game in my current playthrough (just got Battleships) and it's actually getting a little boring now. No wars happening anymore, all systems have been claimed so we're all locked in and all anomalies and such have been researched. I'm basically just spending my time researching, building my fleet and improving my defensive starbases. Is the game normally pretty slow like this for mid-game?

7 Days to Die gets another huge overhaul in Alpha 21

Quoting: g000hStrange that you're getting those results. Your PC isn't too different to mine, and I'm getting over 100 fps.
Wow, that's quite a difference. I'm also running a Ryzen 5 (2600) and only 16GB RAM but I have plenty available when the game starts (~10GB). Also running at 2560x1440. I'm just trying to run the standard Navazgane map also so nothing special there. No mods either.

I think I might try forcing it to use Proton instead of the native client just to see if it makes any difference. Not sure what else to try.

With the latest update to A21, the game is pretty much unplayable for me now. I have a GeForce RTX 2070 Super running on Xubuntu 22.04 with most game settings at medium or low and I'm lucky to get 40FPS standing still. Average is probably around 20FPS. -force-vulcan doesn't seem to make a difference either.

It's a bummer since I have about 800 hrs accumulated over the last 4-5 major updates. This is the first one that's been a show stopper for me.

SoU and HotU are really well done and much more interesting than the core campaign, I think. I'm about halfway through Ch. 2 of HotU with an Arcane Archer and really enjoying it. I dig how you can continue with the same character in HotU and NPCs make comments showing that they've heard about your exploits from SoU (and even the core campaign). Both modules are just really well done and I highly recommend them if you've never played them or wasn't that impressed with the core campaign.

Runs great through Steam. I'd also suggest checking out all the addons available though the Steam Workshop for upgrading the graphics for various assets, adding more character portraits, etc.

It's impressive how many extra free modules Beamdog has made automatically available in the client too.

Pixel-art Sims styled game Tiny Life hits Early Access on May 3rd

Not crazy about the jpop-ish soundtrack but still looking forward to this one. I can still hear the elevator music style of the original Sims in my head which matched the style of that game perfectly.

The original Sims is readily available (it's supposedly considered abandonware at this point) but I've never been able to get it to work in Wine, unfortunately.

Lueur blends city-building with survival from a former Ubisoft developer

Same dev who did Lost in Space for the TIC-80 which was a fantastic little game so I'm on board! I like his minimalist approach to the gameplay and graphics. Definitely not an easy thing to do with a city builder so can't wait to see where he goes with it.

Just downloaded and attempted to run on Ubuntu 22.04 (Xubuntu). Game menu screen loads but I can't select anything with the mouse. Each selection button, e.g. "New Game", only lights up if I rapidly move the mouse back and forth over it. All the buttons react this way and I can't actually click on any of them. Had to alt-tab out of the game and manually kill it.

Other desktop specs are in my profile.
