Google reveal Stadia will only have 12 games available at launch, more later in the year

Different from Netflix, the smallest input lag can be terrible when we talk about games (especially the fast paced ones) and this will be the main complaint when it release officially.
Some people may continue to use, but it'll be a niche, and a niche can't sustain this kind of market.

Quoting: pskosinskiOther issue is that in "third-world" countries they use mainly GSM to access internet and Stadia needs really good fiber.Yup, I do live in one (the most expensive one btw) and I know that unfortunately it's impossible to a project like Stadia to succeed here due to poor network infrastructure, but ironically would be the perfect place for consumers because of the vast low end pc/notebooks here.
As far as I know in US everyone can afford good internet connection but many people can't afford good hardware and I guess that's the target.
Here in Poland you can get good fiber simply only in big cities, I would gladly pay for one but where I live there are none. :|
Quoting: EagleDeltaIsn't this technically a "Soft" or "Beta" launch, hence the subscription requirement for the Founder's Edition? I know the general version of the service doesn't launch till next year, so my guess is that this is to get actual users on the platform to get real-world performance data so they are less likely to run into issues on the true launch dayEven though it's still beta, average consumer want only the better experience, so if the first impression is "it's worse than playing with my high end pc" then people won't use it anymore. Valve made a similar mistake with Steam machines because they didn't refined the system (SteamOS, drivers, big picture...) before launching it for the public, then was released and floped.

Quoting: HopfenmeisterBecause it would be slightly inconvenient if everybody would rush to try it out, overstressing the servers and then leave with a "Stadia sucks" because all they got was a "server full" message or bad performance. In my opinion you're more right than you know :)

That's my main reason why I think this will be another flop. It's not viable in third world countries (where low spec pcs would been benefit) and only avaliable in first world ones (where people can afford high end hardware, therefore, will have a better experience playing local)
The idea of streaming games it's not bad in concept and I believe it'll probably be the future of all software (for better or worse), but like VR, it's a technology "too soon to succeed"

Quoting: YoRHa-2BAnd Google, in their infinite wisdom, decided to not launch Stadia in any of the regions where the latter would actually matter. This! Totally this!!

I hope they're also thinking in make a Vulkan version. It would be nice to have an open source fps using vulkan api, so it might encourage the community to improve it.
The Khronos Group have now released a Vulkan Guide to get you started

This is awesome kudos for the Khronos team.
They also should do like mysql does (or used to do) with bugs and new resources, that's including a functional sample with the report so developers could have an idea about how it works and if it's worth to use in his project.
(of course I dunno if something like this is viable)

Looks like Valve could be set to launch something called Steam Cloud Gaming

This may work in the following ways:
-You'll choose the option to install your games or play through streaming (the best option, but probably not due to server side expenses)
-You'll choose to install your games or play through streaming, but for that you'll have to play a monthly fee to allow your account to play streaming games (most realistic in my opinion)
-You'll have to buy the "streaming version" of the game to be able to play (But I don't think it will be this one)
My only fear with this project is that, if SCG floop like I still believe Stadia will, Valve might stop to invest in the Proton/DXVK project.

For those who think's that Google Stadia will help to get anticheat games to run in Linux forget it, they probably will just remove the anticheat in the stadia versions, since in theory it's impossible to run third party software with it.
The only thing stadia might help Linux games is forcing developers to get familiarized with Vulkan and to not use Microsoft media foundation (Presuming that stadia won't fail either).
About the topic: I think Croteam are the best company for developing linux "AAA games" because I didn't see another company with so much tecnichal knoledge with Linux native games development, so I think Google did a good choice hiring him.
Too bad I don't like Croteam games because they're too repetitive in my opinion.

I really can't imagine a good reason for not use free and multi platforms libraries for videos besides miss information (which I think it's improbable), even if its a directx game.
It feels like they're still using just to difficult the life of linux gamers.

Quoting: orochi_kyoBlazblue Central Fiction, perfectly playable on 4.11 after installing Media foundations libraries. Only works on 4.11 so part of the work is being done by Proton while Media Foundations is only for making the game to not crash on video playback.Does someone know why Japanese companies have fetish with using media foundation with their games? I imagine it's because xbox, but does ps4 uses it too?

Before you go throwing Discord under a bus and gathering any pitchforks though, it's worth noting that Valve still haven't even managed to get their own Steam broadcasting feature into the Linux client.I wonder if the problem to support sharing screen have something related to X.org
