It really is. If there is no source code you have to reverse engineer everything or write everything from scratch which is an incredible amount of work (several years worth). Think of all the game engine recreations.

I haven't experienced anything bad and I haven't seen huge amounts of complaints either. The main thing is that some vocal people seem to be so afraid of the original joysticks breaking that they replace them with hall effect ones as soon as they get the SD.

What does that do? Where does it store the sensible data? How does the flatpak partial sandbox protect the passwords from getting stolen during usage?

The sandbox can potentially (!) protect the host from something inside a flatpak but not the other way around.
