The open source Nintendo Switch Emulator 'yuzu' now has a Vulkan renderer

Quoting: cere4lI'm a bit on the fence about this one, strangely enough I have no issues with emulation, or with paid games.. and yet it seems so odd to have to pay for what is effectively.. pure piracy in 99% of the usecases if not more.
Hundreds of years from now, it will be thanks to "pirates" that people will be able to play the games we have enjoyed in our lifetimes. NOT the large corporations who cannot even be trusted as custodians of their own source code. "Piracy" isn't even a necessary evil, it is an absolute good for humanity in the long run because of the oppressive copyright scheme we had foisted on us.

The sad case of Trine on Mesa and Linux in 2019

Irony of ironies I can get the ANCIENT native port of the original version of the game (doesn't even natively support ALSA) from Humble working fine in the current Fedora release.

Quoting: DesumI wonder if this ups the chance of OpenMW going back to Ogre. There has been zero interest from the OSG devs to move to Vulkan.
Really? I've seen this:

* https://vsg-dev.github.io/VulkanSceneGraph/ [External Link]
Thanks. Seems things have changed since I last looked into it.

Mixing retro FPS flavour with modern design, Hedon is now available on GOG
30 Oct 2019 at 9:14 pm UTC

Hedon is a very good game. I really only have a couple gripes with it as a retro FPS honestly. I'm just surprised the usual suspects are not calling for the dev to be shutdown and shamed over all the fan service.

Quoting: DesumOh goodie. The ultimate DRM and censorship scheme. I'm so excited this is being warmly received because the servers happen to be running on Linux.
i'm worried about DRM and censorship too, but lets take it easy for now.
just remember that chromeOS was online only too when it launched, i think stadia is just an temporary solution until they can get more marketshare for their chromeOS, then they will be able to entice more developers to add offline capabilities too.
actually, chromeOS may be the reason why they are doing stadia anyway, its the only way to make it grow, without games it would strugle to grow otherwise.
also, i'm pretty sure that sony or microsoft will attack that disadvantage that stadia has to attack it, so they will have to respond.

also: onlive is not alive anymore, not because the company was bankrupt but because they where acquired by sony to use their technology on psnow...
lets just remember that before they shut down their servers they offered the option to download your games from they. (cloud lift)

in any case.
be the future an utopy or an distopy, there is NOTHING we can do about it.
There is plenty we can do about it. Just because SOME things are not in our control, doesn't mean nothing is.

Going to be interesting to compare Feral's pre-baked Vulkan wrapper to DXVK.

I totally understand you concerns here, I really do, I pointed out the issues with it numerous times already. It's not just that it runs Linux, it runs on Linux with Chrome too so it can help plug another gap in gaming for those who want it. Still, not entirely sure who their market is exactly...
Is it worth it? Here is what game steaming/GAAS costs us: Unauthorized mods, unauthorized games in general, the ability to get data files for neat little things like OpenMW and OpenLara, the GUARANTEE you can keep playing the game you paid for as far as the service goes, and the ability to play a bloody thing when the internet happens to be on the fritz.

Steam Play Proton 4.11-7 is out with more gamepad improvements and other misc fixes

Technically speaking, what is stopping Proton from working on non-Linux systems? How much work would be involved getting it running on the BSDs or anything else?
