Path of Exile adds a Vulkan Beta, another step closer to Linux support

Quoting: scaineIt's free, and I got over 30 hours out of it. I didn't even stop because of any of the "restrictions" you mentioned (which I didn't notice), I just stopped because there was a free weekend of Grim Dawn and I ended up preferring it.

PoE is a bit "skill-less" after about 20 hours. You spam your big spells and mostly everything on the screen dies a fiery death. But Grim Dawn scales far better and does a better job of showing you when a powerful enemy really is a powerful enemy. You can pick it up for about 75% off on sale - I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it's a cracking game.
20-30 hours probably isn't enough tbh. These issues are a lot more present when you have gone through the "campaign" and are trying to fill out maps on the Atlas. I've not played for several leagues now due to what I talked about, but from updates it looks like they have continued down the path of zoom-zoom and right-click and kill the screen.

Wouldn't call it skill-less either to be honest, as it does take skill to zoom around the screen and kill maps in a few minutes, and get into a rhythm with flask usage without looking at buttons or timers. That said, though, a great deal is decided on what build you go with, and the gear you're able to get. Either from lucky drops, or (ab)using the market.

It's one of many games that are moving in the wrong direction, and back when I played that view was pretty rampant in their forum, especially among players that had supported the game in the early days and had seen this development for several years. Many had already left, and I know several "whales" that have left since then too. I wish they went back to the roots a bit, but it is what it is. Ultimately I'm glad I stopped playing that game, because it simply wasn't fun. Felt more like monotonous and punishing work, which is not something I want to spend my free time doing.

Nice for those who still enjoy it, mind you, and in any case it's good that games, any games, will be supported on Linux, or are easier to play via DXVK and/or Wine.

Is the game still a zoom-zoom speedorama and right-click and the screen dies kinda game? It was fun for a while, but all that grinding and headache inducing game got boring.

Nice if it's eventually properly supported on Linux, though. Worked perfect for me with DXVK a year or two ago, mind you.

It's technically free to play, but that isn't going to be a very practical solution for very long. Too much loot, different 'currency', and loads of stuff from different "leagues", and very small stacking sizes for most things. UI design is geared towards selling extra stashes, and of course there are more microtransctions than you can wave a very large stick at too.

Oh well, it was fun for a while, but that kind of gameplay simply wasn't for me. Not enough Pavlovian genes :P

Started a new character on Pathfinder: Kingmaker, but on HARD. And holy moly did we get torn to absolute shreds :'( Very brutal in the early levels, and we're getting one-shot right, left and centre. Looks like I need lucky with my own rolls AND the enemies' rolls to survive. For people familiar with the D&D(-like) d20 system, they get +4 to AC and hit rolls, which is huge in the early game. Basically means they hit on just about anything, and we need something like 16-17 to hit them. Yeah... not easy. It's even more insane on "Unfair" (apt name) where the bonus is +8.

I either need to tune the difficulty down, or get used to hit F8 all day long for quick reloads. Should be better once we get to level 4-5 I think, but early on D&D is always tricky, and this is taking it to new extremes. I had a nag about it over on GOG: https://www.gog.com/forum/pathfinder_kingmaker/ineffects_guide_v2/post820 [External Link]

Yuck. The "optional" client that (thankfully) doesn't exist for Linux.

Not that I'd play MP anyway as I prefer SP games, but I dislike to see the direction GOG is heading in, and how they keep pushing the bloatware client in various means (not necessarily like with this game).

Looks like a nice game. May pick it up, but not right now.

Microsoft president admits they were wrong on open source

Don't believe them for one second.

They may conclude that it was a strategic error. That it made it more difficult to co-opt, steal and destroy. But I don't think even they themselves think they were wrong as such, and will now make a 180 degree turn. They're still the Spawn of Satan as far as I'm concerned :P

Many tech companies in that category these days, though, so it's not terribly high "praise".

Wasteland 3 characters can have super powerful quirks

Due to the promise in the Kickstarter, before they got wolfed down by Microsoft, this may be the last game with Linux support we see from inXile. Have not followed its news very closely, but I look forward to it after playing through Wasteland 2 3-4 times. That was before they introduced perks, which I suppose have been renamed to quirks now.

One to watch, but I will probably wait for user reviews and maybe also the Super-awesome Royal Enhanced GOTY Imperial Edition.

Been playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker for several weeks, over 200 hours in-game actually (unless their timer is borked), and completed it earlier today. Very good game. That said, I didn't like the last 1-2 chapters. Hordes of frustrating enemies to fight, and loads of bullshit mechanics. But the first 90% of the game was great fun. May still replay it with a different class and choices, but that end was not fun.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI is getting 6 new DLC and 6 free updates with the 'New Frontier Pass'

Fuck me. 40 dollars, more than many brand new games cost, and all people get is a handful of leaders and civilisations. Big developers never fail to be dicks these days.

Civilisation 4 is the superior game anyway.

Not sure if it's possible to directly link to the interactable chart (probably not?), but this development is rather interesting:
