Being able to have an offline backup of a game (even if only Windows), is very important to me...I am also enjoying my old NES games now thanks to owning the physical game and getting an Analogue NT Mini a while back, and it got me think about what if I want to play a game (backlog or replay) in 10, 20, 30 years....will Steam be around?

P.S. Yes, I have an older computer and my current computer that I plan to keep alive and drivers back up offline for future needs.

There is no need to rebuy a game on GOG just to have an offline backup. For Steam games, you can also make a backup of your "common" folder (and maybe "compatdata" for non native games), and you're good to go. :smile:

Of course you will be able to play your GOG Games on Steam Deck (who had a doubt about that anyway)... if you don't mind fiddling around in Desktop Mode on a tiny screen, with no regular mouse, no dynamic cloud sync, limited controller support (unless you add your games to Steam). No thanks, that's not the OOTB experience I'm looking for.

If GOG wants to profit from the Steam Deck, I would expect them to offer at least some basic integration tools. Installing GOG in its current state on the Steam Deck is like buying a Ferrari and installing a two-stroke engine in it.

Even if the game runs "good enough" with the native version, I think they still will prefer Proton as it seems to be more efficient and should draw less power from the battery.

It could also be because of the controller support. I don't know about Dying Light, but controller support in the native version of Trine is pretty much broken, while in Proton it works as expected.

Ah! Good point! I sincerely hope so too! I've mentally put Rocksmith into the "not working" category due to that USB issue.

Would be fantastic if that one is working, then there'll be rockin' in my cave. :)

I managed to get this game working with the real tone cable, that was about about half a year ago. Of course I had to do all the tricks recommended on protondb, but I don't remember what I did exactly. Anyways, good thing is that it seems do be easier to set up now. Keep rocking!

Cant say I've had a lot of luck with proton on native builds. I have tried running borderlands 2 through proton but it's a terrible experience compared to the native.

This is strange, my experience with BL 2 is quite exactly the opposite. I was surprised to see that Proton now even manages to show the desktop launcher (I once had forgotten to switch that launcher files). Performance was way better with Proton, and I also noticed that some effects seem to be missing in the native version, which looked kind of dull in comparison.

Many more of my native games just work better with Proton, for example Dead Island, Dying Light, Trine, ETS 2, Thalos Principle.

I wonder why Ghostrunner and Hades are not in the verified list, as Valve has already shown them as verified here [External Link].
