This is fair. As other commenters wrote, I wouldn't feel comfortable either with giving random games root or kernel access to my system.
However, I could go at great lengths arguing against the usefulness of anti-cheat.
I'll try to make it short. If it were left to me, I'd:
For instance: playing against your friend who is much better than you? Add a bit of aimbot to make it more fun/interesting to everyone. Just make it clear in online lobbies who uses what, and give players the ability to opt out from playing with "cheating" players. Also pit players vs (player+cheat) at similar skill levels. Well, just my 2c.
Oh, of course that can't really work with some business models of selling cosmetics, probably not if trying to extract maximum value. With cosmetics, you need a big, unified player pool to address.

I'll try to make it short. If it were left to me, I'd:
- have pro players play in controlled environments during tournaments
- let competitive players opt-in to stronger anti-cheat measures, like in-kernel/streaming
- relax anti-cheat measures in casual lobbies
- let people play without anti-cheat...
- ... and I would even integrate cheat inside the game

Quoting: fagnerlnActually reading more on this [External Link], there's a steam workshop add-on [External Link] that adds it to the main menu :)Quoting: MayeulCI wish they added split-screen in the UI. You can launch it with the console, but it's hardly intuitive.I didn't know that it's possible to play l4d in splitscreen on PC, lol.

Mindustry [External Link] is one of my favourite blends of tower defense and factorio :)
Kingdom rush [External Link] is very polished.
Revenge of the titans [External Link] (and others in series) is quite nice too!

Quoting: ridgeUsed to play the original Bloons TD flash game as a kiddo, great fun!A few other TD picks (linux-native):
If anyone is looking for a different spin on the tower defense genre, check out the Anomaly series. Anomaly: Warzone Earth [External Link] is my favourite "tower attack" game by far, as in you control a soldier and deploy attackers in real time. You might recognize the developers, they're currently making Frostpunk 2. It also has a native Linux version, however the last Anomaly game, Anomaly Defenders, does not..

Ironically the Proton version works better than the native version in the Steam Flatpak.
Basically, the most interesting part of the format is that it's delivered as a single file. Great for running multiple versions side-by-side, and easy to use in a portable way. Besides that, not much.
Flatpaks are relatively portable too, it would probably be pretty easy to provide one-file exports, although it would require flatpak on the target computer as well to run :)
Quoting: pleasereadthemanualI love the format; it's so simple, gives the developer a lot of control, and solves the age-old issue of dependencies being updated over time. There's plenty of issues with the format too: it's harder to update said dependencies, it still relies on a bunch of dependencies on the host, it also relies on a couple of weird tricks.

Quoting: redneckdrowI've also installed ports of Wesnoth, Freeciv, SuperTuxKart, Frozen Bubble, and several other open source games.I also like unciv and mindustry, both available in F-droid.
Quoting: redneckdrowI'm tempted to see if I could put actual Linux on it via Ubuntu Touch or something similar instead of google's "Frankenstein's monster" present in Android. You could try postmarketos, but odds are calls don't work with it :P

I picked that one up as well, I have a bit of nostalgia for the flash game days. However, this looks much better than what it used to.

Super cool!
I've played so much of that one with my brother as kids, I have fond memories of it. More exposure and people able to play is always a good thing.
I'd be willing to buy it, but given that this game appeals to children, it should be made available for free on Steam IMO.
Next on my wishlist: SuperTuxKart on Steam! And minetest once it gets client-side mods. That one could compete with garry's mod.

Minecraft set to be 30% faster on Linux with Mesa drivers

Minetest has relatively poor performance with higher draw distance, so I was thinking of writing a LOD implementation for it instead

Quoting: TasenovaI tried it, I think it might help a bit, but my test was relatively inconclusive, I should test on less powerful hardware... Threading probably helps in CPU-limited cases, I think.Quoting: MayeulCHey did you test this? How do I get multiMC to use this command? "mesa_glthread=true application-name"Quoting: Rafii2198Does it only work with official launcher? Or can I use 3rd party launcher like MultiMC just fine?As long as the executable is called minecraft-launcher it should work, AFAIK? You can force it on or off if you want, as highlighted in the article.
I have to test whether it helps minetest or not.
