Humble Bundle replacing purchase sliders with less generous options

Well, what is that bundle int the screenshot? I'd have been interested :D

It's been hit-or-miss these days, especially as my library grows and I find more and more duplicates.

Humble monthly also calms down my buying compulsions :)

Pixels customizable smart dice seem like an interesting way to spice up your tabletops

A review popped up on Arstechnica: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/03/20-sided-smart-dice-over-the-rainbow-ars-tests-39-led-filled-pixels-dice/ [External Link]

Edit: whoa, I had missed the part about open FW and SW. This makes the pixels roll from "Meh" to "Oooh" in my mind :)

Matrix + Mumble FTW

Just don't use a communication platform that's not open. There's so many to pick from, these criteria could be valuated a bit more, don't you think?

To celebrate one year, Half-Life: Alyx is the cheapest it's ever been

Quoting: LanzIs VR still a major pain to get running on Linux?
I picked up a second hand HTC vive for 300€. All I had to do was to switch away from wayland, pending this protocol: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/67 [External Link]

It generally works quite well, but I don't think reprojection is supported on my card? Loading times can be soo long in stuff like the lab, but I haven't tried a proper VR game yet. I bought Superhot VR a few weeks ago, will try it when I have time.

I will probably buy Alyx, I was waiting for a discount... I don't feel like paying 1/6 of the HMD cost for a game, as good as it might be... I guess I won't buy beat saber that soon.

Oh, that's neat, I like the integration with external tools, it could also be neat to flash the color according to the value, or if it's a critical throw, etc.

That said, $200... I know dice aren't typically cheap, with sets usually around $50. If I had a regular tabletop group, why not (esp. if everyone chimes in), but I wouldn't buy them on a whim.

Steam Link app now available for the Linux desktop

This is huge, especially the bit about they releasing it on flathub.

I wish they built it for ARM as well, though maybe it is usable in qemu-binfmt? Is it using HW-accelerated decoding with VA-API or similar?

I also wouldn't be surprised if it ends up reverse-engineered.

Linux support for Skullgirls to continue, everyone upgraded to Skullgirls 2nd Encore free

Wow, they announce a story mode for Annie.

A bit surprised they went this route. Doesn't this risk alienating users that paid for the DLC and would have had them for free had they waited a bit?

Valve help developers into adding more controller support with new stats
25 Feb 2021 at 4:26 pm UTC

I wonder if just having a controller plugged in makes it a "controller session"? I guess they were careful about that.

Seeing Steam promote its Input API is awesome! Some games are just horrible to play without that configuration panel. And some also have truly horrible keyboard support (Halo: MCC for instance), so having keyboard input go trough Steam input API could be a boon for these as well.

A shame we didn't get to see the Xbox 360/ Xbox One split, but I don't expect it to be much different from the one here.

Valve launch a Beta for Remote Play Together - Invite Anyone, no Steam account needed

Quoting: jrtIt's pretty obvious at this point that Valve has everything needed to make an optional cloud gaming subscription if they want to.
Yes, there's just a few missing pieces of the puzzle: I assume they're now working on getting this to work in web browsers?

Quoting: psy-qFor those interested in alternatives, Framasoft in France runs a whole bunch of Google-free services [External Link], all of which you can also host yourself.
Well, they kind of stopped [External Link] because the service was originally created to encourage self-hosting, and people were just using their services.

Instead, find a place with a relatively stable internet connection and electricity. Optionally buy a domain name (€ 3-10 depending on the domain). Find an old computer lying around (laptops are nice as they have a battery, and use less power: about 10€/year where I live) and install yunohost [External Link] on it. Pick the services you need. Enjoy. You can share the services (and costs) with your friends and family, it doesn't take that much maintenance, and you'll be doing a favor to your community.

Having your own domain name is quite liberating, as it allows you to switch providers (be it google, protonmail, another, your private VPS or your own server) if you want to. But self-hosting isn't much harder, and a domain name is one of the most expensive parts.

See this list for a few other services you can host: https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted [External Link]
