Serious Sam Fusion 2017 now has benchmark modes and more, here's some quick tests
17 May 2017 at 8:32 pm UTC

I just realized why I didn't have SS:Fusion. I have SS:TFE on CD and never bought it in Steam. I'll go for it, just because I like Croteam XD.

Just as a headsup, not necessarily for this particular game, but some publishers make their games available trough Steam if you enter your CD key.

Personal anecdote:
Spoiler, click me
That was actually some of my first games on Steam: As a teenager short on money, I bought a used half-life 1 CD box for 1€ on the net, entered the CD key a couple years later in Steam, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it had unlocked the whole goldsrc games collection (blueshift, CS, opposing force, ricochet, half-life,...).
A good investment :D

Now, this is what I've been waiting for to upgrade!

The second thing is money. Anyone has a bit of extra cash to spare? :P

An update on the Xenonauts Linux port that's only for 'legacy customers'
16 May 2017 at 9:09 pm UTC

To be honest, I don't care _that_ much about official Linux support, not as much as I like to see a good developer being open and honest about their choices, difficulties, decision processes, etc.

They seem to have a pretty solid reason here, and while I would like the port to remain supported, I hope it will at least remain on "life support" (still being available, and occasionally receive a recompilation or a library update).

Looks like Rome: Total War might be coming to Linux, according to Feral's port radar

Yay, with Rome II (that is, if they port it), that's almost the whole collection we will have. (Maybe not the first Shogun, though).

Looking forward to support them in any way I can (though I already have these games).

It looks like these ports were worth it for Creative Assembly, unless they have some ideological motivation behind it (which I wouldn't mind, to be fair :)).

AMD Vulkan driver 'radv' is now 'effectively a pass' for conformance
4 May 2017 at 8:52 pm UTC

Quoting: CreakKnowing that the Linux kernel maintainers don't allow two drivers enabled for the same hardware at the same time (from what I understood), there's going to be a battle between RADV and AMD if they open source their Vulkan drivers...
While that *might* be true for the kernel (sort of, you can have both amdgpu and radeon enabled for the earlier GPUs, and blacklist one at startup time), RADV and the AMDGPU-PRO (vulkan) driver are using the same kernel module, so there is really no such policy.

In theory, it would be pretty easy, even right now, I think, to make a userspace utility to launch an application with one driver or another, with a right click.
Those are the userspace drivers, they should just communicate with the kernel module via libdrm or similar, and handle the shader compilation, scheduling, etc.

Quoting: ElectricPrismSo in other words this means that RADV driver is 72.4% conforming to the rendering test in the same way that browsers conform to ACID2 and ACID3 test to test their rendering capabilities?
Not really, more like your car is 100% operational (conformant), but it doesn't have some options that could apply to other products: skis, wings, thrusters, whatever. Maybe even some more relevant but narrow-use functionality like an elevated air intake.
Sorry, that was the only analogy that I could think of.

The 'Razer DeathAdder Chroma' is quite possibly the nicest mouse I've ever owned

Quoting: rudzhaYou did some research before your purchase, right?
I'm looking for a new Linux "gaming" mouse, because my Saitek/Mad Catz R.A.T. 7 is falling apart.
Can you suggest any other brands and mice that work well with Linux and/or have Linux support?
Ha, I also have a very old RAT9 that just feels wrong at times (switching modes randomly, battery draining rather quickly, pointer motion sometimes erratic, etc.). I am looking for a replacement as well.

The fact that it doesn't work well anymore also slows me down on my "ratctl" driver development.

A feature I really enjoyed on this mouse was the horizontal scroll wheel, which can be extremely useful at times. And changing sensitivity with the press of a button can also be handy :)

Mesa 17.0.5 is available now with plenty of fixes
30 Apr 2017 at 11:33 pm UTC

Quoting: LinuxwarperI used following article to use a Mesa PPA that was more official, and was wondering if it's being maintained or not?
Well, just looking at the PPA [External Link], there is a mesa 17.1 release candidate that has been uploaded three days ago.

As for the "most official" part, I find it harder to find more official than a release announcement, but perhaps you were referring to the way of getting it on ubuntu?

Reminder: Update your PC info for the next round of statistics updates

Quoting: HoriLOL there's literally just one single person on this site (at least amongst those who are part of the statistics) that uses a 32bit distro. Good job dude, IDK how you can survive with that, but good job!
Hey, calm down, I'm still using my 32 bits atom-based laptop, just not as a main platform (and I am OK with not getting any new games on it).

He might have his reasons, although I agree that using a 32 bit distribution on a 64bits CPU is probably not a good idea, unless you have very specific needs.

Quoting: M@yeulCEDIT: No way to register with special chars in the username? I must say I am disappointed :(
Nope, we locked that down on GOL ages ago too, pretty sure I emailed you and everyone else asking if we could change your username. Special characters get in the way of certain stuff we might do in future.
Oh, sorry about that. I must have missed your email. Feel free to s/@/a/, I just want to avoid having two different usernames for two somewhat related websites (and would actually like some kind of merged profiles).

Then, I don't think it really comes in the way of some features: usually, a user ID or HTML/HTTP-style escaping would do. But that's your call on this one.
