Seems like the next update for Godot Engine is going to be a nice one for game developers, with multiple graphics enhancements on the way. Detailed in a new blog post they revealed some of the focus for Godot 4.1, now that the dust has began to settle on the huge Godot 4.0 release that provided Vulkan support.

With the 4.1 release planned for this year, now they're moving to more regular releases, some of what they have planned to add includes:

  • Identify bottlenecks in 3D rendering to improve performance.
  • Time slicing DirectionalLight3D shadows to reduce GPU pressure for shadows.
  • Background pipeline compilation to improve shader loading times.
  • Finishing the 3D renderer for their OpenGL compatibility that targets lower-end and mobile devices.
  • FSR 2.2 for their Temporal AntiAliasing solution, along with integrating a bunch of effects with it like SSAO, SSR, shadows and so on.

Godot Engine is a free and open source game engine for developers, you can see more on the official site.
