Great news for anyone who uses their Steam Deck for PlayStation Remote Play, as the open source chiaki4deck app is testing a big upgrade for easier console connections.

Mentioned on GitHub for the new test release they said "This is a test release for the new feature of remote connection using PSN for Setup using UDP Holepunching instead of requiring port forwarding by the end user.". So the result should be a lot less fiddly and a smoother experience overall, with you no longer needing to screw around with internet router settings.

Some requirements for testing it:

Requirements

  • Console must be connected to PSN and updated to the latest firmware
  • Console must be registered either locally or remotely via the traditional registration
  • Home network must be compatible with UDP holepunching (not all networks are compatible)

Notes

  • Console will show up as Remote Connection Via PSN with the console nickname
  • Console will only show up for remote connection if console is not discovered locally (otherwise Chiaki4deck will use local connection)

They have a test AppImage on the GitHub release page, which also gives info on using their test Flatpak if you would prefer.

Nice to see for when your friends, partners, kids and so on are hogging the TV.

I LOVE not having to get a PS Portal and using my Steam Deck for Remote Play. While I don't use my PS5 as much anymore, Chiaki works so well for Remote Play.
I gotta look into little stickers to add PlayStation button logos to feel more okay with Remote Playing 😅
